Best kept secret in Killingly! China garden doesn't look like much when you drive up to the door. One generic store front in a little strip mall of stores. Even when you walk in, it's obvious the restaurant was not built on their Dine-In customers. But the very basic and a bit outdated interior design is VERY quickly forgotten by the time you reach the counter to order, as your brain has been completely overtaken by the wonderfully tantalizing smells coming from the kitchen. Beware friends!! I've gone into this heavenly little establishment with 1 dish on the brain, only to be so overwhelmed by the glorious aromas that I got a bit distracted and quite happily ordered something new. Nothing I've ever had from China Garden has been bad. NOTHING. Their prices are below what the other main Chinese food restaurant in the area charges. They do not have delivery. The other guys' do; so if it's late and I'm not up for driving I will pay more for delivery. BUT...a big part of the success of this restaurant is the speed with which your order is ready. THESE GUYS ARE FAST!! And there's alot of good, hot food at a great price. The owners of China Garden are smart; they capitalized on the basics and...
Read moreSo I've been going to this place for years now and this is the first time I've felt uncomfortable going there. The sign was still lit up that the place was open. I came in and asked for three food items. The man seemed a bit annoyed and me being someone who works as a cashier started to wonder why. Concluding that when people shop at my store late at night and Iv known some employees to get annoyed. I was pretty sure I understood why this man seemed annoyed. So I asked were you about to close. And he answered yes. So I apologized and he said it's ok. When I got my food I asked if I could have some duck sauce. He said behind you on the table. I knew that was the sauce that tasted horrible. But I said thanks anyway and grabbed some hoping maybe it might taste different than it used to be. Then I heard the man seem to grumble behind me sounding annoyed. The sauce I tried tasted terrible like I thought. And their shrimp is more salty than it used to be. If your going to be this upset for a customer to come in late because your about to close you should just turn off your open sign in the window. I felt very uncomfortable. I'm pretty sure that will be my last visit to...
Read moreI have to say, for a buffet, they're actually pretty good. Being on a restrictive diet, I was able to find plenty of vegetables and fruit for dessert. I kind of wish they offered small salads too. My only complaint, was the one time I found the "lead" , if that's what she is, yelling at one of the younger waitresses in front of the whole restaurant. This young lady, twenties, if that; was crying her eyes out. And that KAREN would not stop!!! When we were leaving, they were both in the small waiting area. I gave the young woman a gentle squeeze on her arm. She smiled at me. I told her not to put up with being belittled in front of a full restaurant. Just then momsen comes out; I told her she shouldn't be reprimanding staff in front of customers; let alone, making them cry. I forgot my jacket at the table and went to get it. When I got back, this girl was balling, I actually hugged her and told her there were plenty of other places to work. Well, M was not happy. She hit me with a broom claiming She didn't see me...uh, really can't me miss. Sometimes, you just have to say something when you see...
