Their sushi used to be 5 star quality but they no longer use toasted sesame seeds on their sushi rolls. Maybe you don't care about that, but I care very much about that because sushi without sesame is bland. I mean, it's still good food, it's just not good sushi. And if I'm paying a lot of money for a sushi restaurant that specializes in making sushi to make me sushi, I want good sushi. With toasted sesame seeds.
The last time I was there I asked for sesame on the side, which they've given me before, but this time they said they stopped buying it altogether because they have "customers with allergies." That explanation is suspect because plenty of people are also allergic to seaweed, fish, cucumber, and avocado, and they still serve that. Whatever, so I figured, ok, maybe I can just bring my own toasted sesame next time, how simple is that? But then I came to my senses. I'm not going to bring my own ingredients to a restaurant that's supposed to have them already.
I mean, it would be like an Italian restaurant without grated cheese. Or a Thai restaurant without chili peppers. Or a Mexican restaurant without salsa. Or a German restaurant without beer. "Oh, you want ketchup for your French fries? So sorry, we have customers with allergies."
Either way, too bad for them, there are a bunch of other restaurants in the area that make proper sushi rolls WITH toasted sesame seeds and everything else you might be allergic to.
Their hibachi is good, but I think I got it only once.
I really dinged a restaurant two stars because of sesame seeds?...
Read moreA friend told us about this place and we popped in for my birthday dinner. The dining room is small but seating comfortable. We arrived a little before the regular dinner hour. The service was really good. Two servers were highly attentive, constantly checking on us to see if everything was okay and if we needed anything. We started with salads. My husband had a green salad and loved the dressing. They brought him a squeeze bottle of it so he could decided how much he wanted on the salad. Smart! I had the avocado salad with a lovely pile of sliced avocado. The lettuce and dressing underneath were somewhat irrelevant but the avocado was perfectly fresh. Then we had the shrimp tempura appetizer. Perfect for two people. One onion, broccoli, sweet potato and shrimp per person. The tempura was light and not greasy, perfectly fried. I would have liked a thicker dipping sauce but it did not disappoint. Then came the sushi. We were both very pleased with our choices. I got a vegetarian roll with seaweed salad, cucumber, and avocado, and the Dragon roll. Some of the best sushi I've ever had. My husband loved his choices too. I am so glad we had an excellent experience and I look forward to going back again. Happy to support a small business in our area....
Read moreTried this piece a few years ago & was underwhelmed, but we've seen multiple positive reviews so we decided to give it another try. Won't be making that mistake again.
First we were served "salad", which was a dish of lettuce & 1 sliver of tomato I could literally see through. Then soup - except that mine had miso,, tofu, and spinach, and my boyfriend's was hot water & green onions, nothing else. We ordered sushi that never arrived, so we wound up having to take it to go.
My dinner was served, but I chose to wait for my boyfriend so we could actually eat together - except that it took an additional 10 minutes for his food to arrive, by which point mine was cold. No apologies or even acknowledgement from our waitress. After eating our appetizers & dinners, were still waited an additional 10 minutes for our sushi to be ready for us to take home.
They do a serious amount of takeout & that's clearly where their priorities lie. Customers dining in did not receive much attention (not just us - we heard complaints from other tables). If you want to try this place, my advice is to definitely take your food to go. At least then you'll receive it all at...
