Everything about Mother Earth Brewing feels good, from the name, to the sustainable business model, to the very tasty beer. It's only a one hour drive from the Triangle to Kinston (perfect for a quick day trip when you feel like getting out of town for a while). The large LEED certified brewery building with solar-paneled roof, adjoining tap room and beer garden occupy a prominent position on the corner of Heritage and North Streets in downtown Kinston. The interior of the tap room has a really cool vibe, with white painted floors, red accents and blue pendant lights hanging over the u-shape bar. You'll want to find a comfortable seat and plant yourself there for an hour or so. But there's a (free) brewery tour you really shouldn't miss. Included in the brewery tour is a peek into the future of Mother Earth Spirits, a distillery room with gleaming copper equipment and an intricate ceiling constructed from the remains of old casks. The owner's whimsical side is evident by the functional (for employee use only) curving slide leading from an upper level to the ground floor. At the tour’s end, you can search out a comfortable seat on the outdoor patio to finish your beer. Though no food is served on site, patrons are welcome to BYOF (and I've seen people bring in coolers packed with food). You can find Mother Earth beer all around the Triangle, but do yourself a favor and get to the brewery in Kinston to see exactly where you...
Read moreI can never get enough of this place. My wife and I stumbled upon a Mother Earth beer in the local bottle shop by pure accident. It was an beer aged in bourbon barrels which we could not not try. We fell in love. A while later we were on a trip to Eastern NC and decided to go a few miles out of the way to visit the brewery - great decision.
The brewery is alot more than than just a brewery. Great beers, not spirits are definitely available to enjoy but Mother Earth has done so much more to stimulate the community. There are great restaurants near by to enjoy and many other things. Our evening was spent walking the area, finding great food to take back to the brewery and enjoy with some fabulous beers.
A few of our favorites are in the silent night series. Perfectly aged beers in bourbon barrels and nothing else matters. They have one that is aged in Blanton's barrels that is to die for. I have not had a bad beer here yet! And the servers were fantastic too.
One complaint...They discontinued the Fig and Raisin beer from the windowpane series. Mother Earth - if you read this PLEASE...
Read moreNot impressed. We have been to dozens of breweries all over the country and this place does not impress us. The beer is below average, the bar tenders were less than friendly and the place was not family friendly. The bartender made that clear when I asked for a little glass to put in a juice for our daughter and she barked at me and said we have nothing for kids here. Most breweries are family friendly. We stopped in because of the Google rating. I have tried their beer from bottles at the store and wasn't impressed. The beer at the brewery is the same. It's just ok. I would recommend you don't waste your time. I think it is rated good because there is nothing else better around, but in the big picture it is weak at best. The bar is a nice space but stuffy. I think this place suits parentless adults and couples on a weekend get away in Kinston. The space is nice, but the product is week. Wilmington brews make this...
