Ocean Bay Seafood — Restaurant in Kinston

There were several concerns about this restaurant, I was not pleased or impressed with the front of the house staff at all.

To keep this review brief, I’ll give some bullet points.

*I ordered a catfish plate with fries and the seafood boil with snow crab, mussels, and shrimp.

Pros: Food was still good and warm after getting home (15 mins) Seafood was not overcooked Decent flavor

Cons: “Front of the house” staff overall unprofessional Lacked communication skills Lacked customer service skills Did not perform hand hygiene Visibly irritated at customers on the phone Staff not wearing masks properly Clearly not trained on how to work in a restaurant

Did not give coleslaw with my order Wait time longer than expected Did not properly greet customers Signage needed for “pick up orders” 3 ladies in the front, 2 of which were unsure of what to do next.

I understand this is opening week and things are hectic. I surely hope this restaurant can sustain in this city because the service is needed and appreciated. Would I return? Yes. If the order, flow, and customer service has not improved...it...

Firstly, I eat at this fine establishment at least four times a week. I always call ahead so that it will be ready when I arrive. I typically get the grilled catfish along with the garlic butter boiled eggs, and garlic butter corn. It is always cooked to perfection. I would also recommend the salmon and wontons - the best in Kinston. The salmon was not offered on the menu nor was the shrimp chips (an appetizer) and they went above and beyond to add it to the menu. I wanted to purchase gift cards and they did not offer that either, and, to my surprise, a presto, they offered that as well. Talk about customer service!! The owners/staff are a breath of fresh air. They are congenial and genuine, and they always take the time to ask me how I am doing that day. My family supports this business as well and they even ask about them if they have not seen them in a while. My boyfriend and I have been to this place several times in the last two years and it NEVER disappoints! For appetizers my go to’s are the Crab Rangoon, Fried Calamari, and Sweet Potato Fries. The fried calamari is the best I’ve had over any restaurant including ones with higher price ranges. This is my preferred restaurant to get a seafood boil. I’ve had seafood boils from Hook and Reel, the Juicy Crab and even a really nice restaurant in Texas and they do not compare to Ocean Bay Seafood!
