This will be a lengthy review in order to accurately explain my reasoning for giving the locale 3 Stars.
My job ordered from Down The Block the last two Saturdays for the employees, so yes, the food was free to me. I did not pay for the food. I understand the whole, "Don't look at a gifted horse's teeth" analogy but I'm an avid supporter of local businesses and if I don't bring these points to the ownerships' attention, they will never be able to correct the issues.
First and foremost, the pizza is absolutely amazing. Every single pizza we received was on point.
Along with the pizza, there were separate orders and that's where the problems arises. The first Saturday I had the Italian Beef sandwich and the only way to describe it was like eating a block of salt. All I tasted was salt. There were no other flavors.
Now it could had all been from the au jus that I drizzled over the beef before even taking a bite. I did this not expecting it, if that was truly the source of the salt, to be so salty. It was inedible.
Maybe, and I'm not sure because I did not order the second time, the sandwich would had been great had it not been for the salty au jus or, and this is something I will never know, it was the actual beef that was salted to the point I took three bites and threw the sandwich away.
The following Saturday, this was on 3/27, I ordered the Sweet Carolina Burger with a side order of fries. I asked for the burger to be cooked medium-well and after taking the first bite I knew it was a mistake. The beef patty was completely overcooked to the point that it was dry. A total letdown.
Along with the overcooked burger patty, the more saddening part were the fries. They were soaked, and I mean soaked in frying oil. They were completely limp and soggy. My fingers were coated with oil after a few tries and i had to throw them away, same as the sandwich the week before. I did eat the burger, but it was not cooked the way it was ordered.
If the fries had been eatable, I would had been okay with the burger, but the combination of the two, after the previous week's experience, just left me upset. And yes, it was free food but again, if the owners are not made aware they'll never know.
If the next Saturday I'm working my employer decides to order again from DTB, I'll think I'll go with a calzone.
Hope the issues can be corrected and the business continues to thrive....
Read moreI used to order food once a week from this place. There were probably three to four times that the food that I ordered was below average yet I did not complain. Finally there was a weekend when I had a probably 60 to $75 order and asked for it to be delivered. The food came one hour and a half late oh, when I called to find out the first time why it has been more than 45 minutes I was told give them about five minutes and we will be there. I wish that I would have received a courtesy call to let me know that they were very busy and running behind that way I could have cancelled the order instead of waiting so long. By the time the food arrived it was it was cold the chicken wings were soggy and dried out and we threw it all away. So I decided to try another local pizza and sub place down the street.I have only picked up my orders from them so I can't comment on their delivery service.
I thought maybe after taking a break from ordering food at The wrap shack oh, when I do decide to order again they would have better cooks or more experienced employees. So I ordered a few more times. Always chicken wings Pizza or calzones I think we ordered subs a few times those were good. When I had a bad order again this time I called and spoke with the manager / owner.he told me that if I can bring the bad food back he would replace it for me. I do have to say it was not easy for a simple resolution on below-average food the woman and man that I had spoke to throughout this feud a process were very rude. The only other thing that I would like to add is I have never ordered food during the daytime. I have always been an evening customer so maybe the staff in the evening needs more training I don't know I think I'm going to try the wrap shack during the...
Read moreAn unexpected trip landed us on the doorstep of Down the Block. Not sure what to expect, my hubby and I decided to kill some time and grab a snack.
We are usually super cautious as I have a rare potato allergy. This experience was very transparent and pleasant. The kitchen accommodated us with no issues.
What an amazing menu. We asked the super sweet lady what she recommended. Our "snack" turned in to a Philly cheesesteak, "Mimi's meatballs," and some homemade provolone sticks. It was absolutely AHHHHMAZING!!! The meatballs are absolutely to die for!! 10/10 definitely recommend.
While waiting we had the opportunity to strike up a conversation with the owner. Such an incredible guy. He brought us sample cups to try his soups. The wedding soup had a deep flavor depth that just oozed experience, and authenticity.
We ended up also grabbing a 10 piece chicken strip, fries, fried dough, and took them home for the kiddos. Not a crumb was left after a few minutes. Everyone loved it.
Its rare to find a family atmosphere restaurant with such salt of the earth people. We will be utilizing this hidden gem in the near future for both a culinary treat and catering an event.
I highly recommend stopping in and taking the menu for a spin. Everything we ordered was simply delicious. Any choice will surely be a...
