Yesterday we decide to celebrate Valentine's Day at Bull and Bear, Waldorf, Orlando. Granted it is a steakhouse, however, it resides within the Waldorf, thus my expectations are significantly higher as are their prices. The price is not a variable, however, the more you charge the better the service I expect. We arrived and were greeted nicely at the desk and escorted to our table. A much nicer one than our previous dinner in that it has 2 chairs versus a chair and a bench. However, the receptionist opted not to assist my wife with her chair, which I promptly addressed by doing it for my wife. Other members of the wait staff, seeing what I did, quickly came to assist me. The wine list was presented and a selection made. The breads were presented, a nice selection. A waiter tried to present an amuse bouche, he had issues placing the place on the table. It was tasteless. My wife selected the foie, while I ordered the lobster salad; both were good. The entrees were the sole for my wife I opted for the wagyu. My mistake at this point was that I did not inquire as to the wagyu's grade. I am accustom to wagyu grade 5 or higher, I am not sure what grade this was but the marbling was not evident. I suspect it must be grade 1 no more than 2 - very disappointing. I also requested a sauce which was disappointing. They have a misconception that truffle oil equates to truffles. I also ordered extra crispy french fries. Initially my request was met with a slight resistance. No sooner than the appetizer was done, the entree presented. Literally a pit stop. Two wait staff showed up to remove the appetizer plates and a different crew to place the entrees. Absolute,y no time between courses. My steak appeared without the fries. The fries showed up and returned for being not well done enough. Out of nowhere, I have a cocktail served to me which was not ordered. We promptly told the waiter who was well on his way elsewhere that it was not ours. He went off to hunt for the cocktail's owner. Then the fries came out, and once again a different waiter was stopping at every table seeking their owner. Finally my wife caught the waiter's attention and the fries delivered. The condiments requested for the fries had to be re-requested. These events reminded me of when the pit crew places the tire, but forgets to tighten the lug nuts; however in this case, they don't even know which tires belong where. The two top next to us apparently ordered table side Caesar salad. Again the appetizer was not finished and the table side prep started. More overly the lady was not finished with her soup, while the man had finished with his soup and as you might have guess by now, his plate was removed and his salad served. It appears that the B&B apparently doesn't know how to make an authentic Caesar since they use a hard boiled egg. Bye the bye the menu, as far as proteins, at the Bull and Bear if not identical is just about identical to the restaurant on the top floor of the Waldorf. However, if you dine on top be prepared to hear the clanging of pots and pans. Say what may about Disney and their prices, they train their staff and service is spot on. This why we are dining at Victoria and Albert's today. Perhaps Bull and Bear should regroup and train its staff. To me dining is not just how good the food is, but also the dining experience. B&B's food is good, certainly not great. Given their average kitchen, they might want to upgrade the dining experience. My recommendation -...
Read moreThis review has been a year in the making. I first went to the restaurant after watching a fan favorite of mine on You Tube go and have what looked to be incredible service and food I was very excited to try this out for myself. The reservation was set and when we arrived we were told it would just be a short wait while they are finished getting the table ready. Not a big deal but after about 25 min I was getting a little annoyed but we were seated and I knew 100% what I wanted, Tomahawk. We made our order and about 30 min later the first course which was a salad came out. I had seen on the video they were supposed to make it at the table but this was already prepared and mine was being served on on a plate that had something sticky on the bottom of it. Normally if its not major I would have just wiped off the food that was stuck on but this was a restaurant I had been waiting for a while to get a reservation for and felt it should be at the top of its game since we are paying for it to be.
I told the server we had that I would like a new salad and was told its not dirty it was just a balsamic that got on the plate and they would wipe it off. I thought they were joking but he took a cloth and just wiped it off right there in front of us and made me have to ask again for just a new plate and a new salad. He walked to the back and after another 15-20 min came back out with almost nothing on the plate and asked if we would be ordering anything special from the bar. I was a little put off at this point but I was still looking forward to the main meal. In the video there was a amuse-bouche between meals, this did not happen with us so I guess that was something special they did for them. The person I was with ordered the chicken and I got the steak which we were told was taking so long because of the size, but by the time the steak was coming out (over an hour at this point) the chicken was cold and dry.
Depending on the steakhouse I tend to order medium if at a normal restaurant and medium rare at a higher end. The steak that was presented was blue, for a cooking time of over and hour there was no way possible for it to be as rare as it was and even as the server was slicing it for me (even though he was asked not to) he was noticing it and asked would you like this fixed? I told him no because at this point I was done. I ended up cooking half of the steak the next day and only half because the container they had was not closed and it was placed upside down and leaked.
I thought a member of management would have been alerted and come by to apologize but that didn't happen. The last bit doesn't sound like a lot but at no point did they even bring the wet napkin that rises up from the small container of water. Nothing major but still a little touch that again we were not allowed to take part in.
Overall I felt like we were snubbed and treated poorly because we were not buying alcohol which we did hear the server mention and they seemed to be focusing on a large drinking crowd next to us that seemed to be having an...
Read moreWe dined here last night and had high hopes. We're the kind that look at TripAdvisor and Google reviews for the best places to eat.
We had been looking forward to visiting for sometime and are regulars at the talk of the town restaurants like Charleys steakhouse etc so are quite used to spending money at around this price point.
We started with cocktails which were pretty good, although on the small side for 19 bucks. They were definitely closer to a 14 dollar cocktail in similar venues.
We love Caesar salad so thought we would opt for the tableside Caesar salad. It was pretty good but I think that Worcestershire sauce as well as anchovy paste adds too much fish and salt flavour. After all Worcestershire is just pickled fish. So personally I'd omit the Worcestershire. Also I'd substitute the olive oil for sunflower oil, as olive oil has quite a strong taste. So it was pretty good but I've had better.
We ordered our mains, wagyu steak and the chicken plus two sides. When the food came it looked the part however the taste was dreadful. The steak although a soft texture, was like eating tablespoons of salt. That's all I could taste. I'd also argue the portion was not 12oz but closer to 8oz, not that it mattered as I managed 2 or 3 oz only. I tried to scrape off the salt seasoning and that didn't work. My wife found her chicken was also very salty and had to scrape the batter off. She described it as tasting like KFC except saltier. The fries we ordered again just tasted of salt, although to be fair fries often do, but I was surprised when the mash had an overwhelming salt taste rather than a buttery creamy taste.
We told our server everything tasted really salty and they took the two entrées off the cheque, I really should have asked for the sides too because they too were inedible.
Given everything was so salty if it wasn't for the fact that we had both done Covid tests 2 hours before, which were both negative we would have assumed there must be something wrong with us. Everything really was that salty.
By the end of the meal I could feel my lips tingling and starting to dry out from the salt. When we got back to our room I was feeling sick and was sick during the night as a result. I also had to make 4 trips to the bathroom for the other end during the night.
I have end stage renal failure so don't tend to add salt to much other than fries but that shouldn't make us both find everything so unbelievably salt laden.
Really disappointed and I note a few other comments about the levels of salt they also experienced.
I'm not sure how the reviews are so good for this place, maybe because it's trendy place to go or maybe because people are embarrassed to say it wasn't good for what it cost them.
I tipped the waiter 60 bucks on a 150 dollar bill because the service was good, and I don't think server should be punished due to the shortcomings of...
