We stopped by La Estación Colombiana to try some of their food after my uncle highly recommended it. We attempted to visit once before, but the restaurant was closed. The location is quite small, so I suggest arriving early to secure a seat. The interior is decorated with numerous photos, vibrant murals, and art representing Colombia. As you enter, the aroma of grilled meat greets you.
We were seated immediately, and our order was taken promptly. I didn't catch the server's name since I was invited, but I must say, the service was excellent, even as the place filled up. I ordered the bandeja paisa, and it was divine. I had heard that the pork belly could be a bit fatty, and mine was indeed that way. It could have been fried a little longer, but it was still quite tasty. The steak was fantastic and seasoned to perfection. The rice was good, and the egg, although small, resembled a fresh farm egg.
Everyone else ordered the carne asada, which they thoroughly enjoyed, as well as the fried fish dish. Everything was perfect. I would highly recommend this restaurant, and I can't wait to go back to try more items from their menu. The portion sizes are enormous; if you leave feeling hungry, something...
Read more3/31/18- I want to know how this place has 4.2 stars. I'm from NY and trying to find a decent place to get tasty food like back home is so hard! I haven't had a Colombian empanada in a year and a half so I decided to look up a few places near by and this was at the top. People, save your pennies! The "empanadas" we're super fried they tasted more like oil. We ordered some chicharron (fried pork belly) which you can tell was fried with many other things like fish and they charged us $7.90 for the pork pieces because on the menu it says it comes with an Arepa (corn Patty) which came as the size of a Quarter and SO HARD you can literally knock someone out with it. I noticed there were only two servers and at another table it seems like a customer found something wrong in their order, she told the waitress, as the other waitress who seemed like a manager asked her what was wrong and I couldn't hear the rest but she made her turn around and return the plate to the customer with a sobb story. If I am paying for a plate you will not tell me how I have to eat my food. You don't want to fix it? Ok,! I'll leave the plate right there for you and leave. Bien pesimo! No vayan...
Read moreOur first visit. We arrived around 8pm and there was no soup nor roasted chicken. They said they ran out earlier. So arrive early if you want soup. The meat empanadas were pretty good although small for the price. We decided to request the big plate that included different meats - Bandeja la Estacion. The food was ok. Some of the meats were a little salty but that seems to be normal. The caramel flan was not as expected. We are use to milk or cheese flan. They sold us caramel flan. Too sugary. I swapped the sweet plantains for fried plantains and the waitress said it would be a dollar more yet they charged me two dollars more - $19.95 became $21.95. No idea why. We were not to happy with the automatic 18% tip charged on our bill. I didn't read it on the menu but it was charged on the bill. There were only three of us. I've seen the 8 or more people automatic tip but not with three people. I believe the law requires patrons to be notified on the menu of automatic tips. Don't get me wrong. I believe in giving tips. I always do. I'm not use to automatic tips without notification....
