I just happen to see these reviews here and want to say something. I am a Chinese and my husband is an American. This is a restaurant We usually go even though their food isn’t authentic Chinese food and very Americanized I would say, but a lot of dishes have many vegetables in there which We like and the location is not far from our home. The ingredients are fresh, and look very healthy to me. Their portion size may not be as big as western restaurants but I personally think most western restaurants provide too big portions resulting in many people over eating if they don’t want to waste food or take leftover home. Most of the time when we go to Western restaurants we will have leftover to take home and have to eat the same food for two meals. Some people say the servants are mean and rude “throwing” stuff on the table. Maybe we’ve just been lucky not having experienced this or we just accept it as different maner of doing things. They are nice and friendly towards us. They may talk loudly sometimes but again that’s just how Chinese act and they don’t mean to be mean or rude. My husband lived in China for over a year and now he can understand much more of how Chinese act, and he thinks it’s just different culture not which is good or which is bad. I would like to tell people here something funny, when my husband first went to China he would say “thank you” to everybody at anytime when he think he should and Chinese people think he’s strange or something’s wrong with him. My husband never stopped saying thank you this is just a difference in culture. I don’t say thank you as much as my husband does but I always tell him people don’t say thank you doesn’t have to mean they are not thankful or don't appreciate and he can understand it’s just different custom. As far as we know, Chef Ben is a family restaurant and two sisters and their family work there. They work very hard seven days a week and never take vacations. Sometimes they might be a little rush when they are busy trying to get more orders done. I think that’s understandable. There’s a Chinese fast food restaurant called Panda Express which my husband and I visited once and decided Chef Ben is a better choice if we want Chinese food. Above is just my own opinion, I don’t mean to offend anybody if it happened to. By the way, our favorite Chinese restaurant is Asia Kitchen which is located on Kingston pike next to a Asian grocery store called Sunrise Supermarket. If you like authentic Chinese food it may worth to try,if you happen to like spicy food then...
Read moreWent with the girl friend thought we'd treat our selves. Service was horrible. Our waitress was so incredibly rude I considered walking out. She gave us nothing but attitude even though we were being as polite and respectful as possible. Food was priced well but when i got my food the rice was off. I ordered General Tso's Chicken and Fried rice. The General Tso's was great loved it. Id order it again. That is if they get my business again. But the fried rice was NOT fried it was like they tossed white rice in cheap veggies and bad oil and served it. I brought the rude waitress up to a woman who claimed to be the manager but she looked lost and afraid of the waitress. Noticed half way through our meal cleaning supply's were left out all over the both across from us. Believe me I'm happy to see cleaning supply's in a restaurant it means they use them but a nasty bucket of water next to me trying to enjoy my meal is not the dinning experience I've come to expect. Its a weird moment while eating you see a bottle of pledge next you while your eating and all you can think about is your shopping list.
I would not go sit down to eat there again but i will say the food was decent I'd buy it again. As for taking a date there or my family. Never again. That is because of the staff's actions out of the question. Honestly the way you treat a customer can make or break a...
Read moreI was busy yesterday and decided to stop in to this restaurant for what ended up being my only meal of the day. It took fifteen minutes for anyone just to take our drink order. I ordered the hibachi beef and my fiance ordered the hibachi chicken. Both meals came with soup and we both ordered egg drop. The waitress brought us our drinks, straws, and soup. She threw the straws at each of us and then threw our soups on the table causing soup to drip down the sides of the bowl. She brought us our plates and gave both of us hibachi chicken despite the fact that I had ordered beef. Before I could say anything she ran off and never once returned. I attempted to flag her down and she only looked at me and continued walking past me. Now hibachi is supposed to be slightly sweeter. Our food was sour. The chicken had an extremely sour tang to it almost like they cooked it in with warheads. The fried rice was literally just about two spoonfuls of white steamed rice. It was extremely disappointing. Our meals were 5.50 each plus 1.50 each for drinks yet somehow my bill was 18 dollars. Now here me and my fiance are, both with food poisoning and unable to move around or eat anything without vomiting. Don't go to this...
