El Girasol — Restaurant in Knoxville

My family and I have been traveling for 9 hrs and wanted to rest here in Knoxville and we were feeling yummy Mexican Food. We were really disappointed.. we ordered an order of the chicken enchiladas and they were SO dry and barely any sauce. There was an order of 1 barbacoa taco, which consisted of 2 super dry corn tortillas and even DRIER barbacoa meat. And to top it all off, the rice had to have been old because there was over cooked dry clumps. I spent $30 on dinner that I had to throw away.

The only thing that tasted right was the chicken and steak fajita meat. It was very moist and juicy. But my tortillas were extremely dry. The avocados were already gone bad in my container. I’m only giving this place 2 stars one for the excellent customer service when I picked up my food and giving the restaurant the benefit of the doubt that maybe they were just having a rough day. But please don’t lack on the flavors and effort of making a statement to customers, especially those who are traveling through and would love to return...

I've driven by this place for years and always though about going in. Tonight, needing some Chile de Pasilla and other ingredients, I decided to try it finally. I am so glad I finally did! Don't let the outside intimidate you. The people that work there are super helpful and so friendly in both the market and the restaurant. They even let me try some of their chicharone for free both in a dish they make there and the fresh chicharone after I told them what I was wanting to cook. Both the small bit of the chicharone dish, the fresh chicharone and the tortilla were amazing night and day difference between packaged corn tortillas and fresh ones.Endedd up buying a pound of it and a pound of still warm tortillas. Tacos are amazing with homeade tortillas good and authentic!! Gorditas were also amazing!! I chose asada (steak) and chicharron (fried pork skin) grande sope..the asada was good but the chicharron was more like super dry carnitas (the only reason i didn't give 5 stars) 💔💔 the sope itself was very hard on the outside to the point i couldn't even chew it...next time i will try the smaller sope as its probably perfect!! I love the fact they have a small tienda next to the resturaunt that you can get some amazing ingredients to cook your own meal at home or grab a few items before you head home!!
