Shoney's - N. Broadway — Restaurant in Knoxville

This particular Shoney’s has been a regular breakfast destination of our family for a number of years. Today on Saturday the 4th of February myself, my Husband, my sister and my father all came to eat brunch together something we do very often. Whilst being in the middle of our breakfast and conversation a lady on a table next to us proceeded to say out loud ‘we need to move from this table we can’t hear ourselves talk’ which is perfectly understandable as we were all having a very engaged excited conversation (we weren’t shouting at all and we were having a normal toned conversation)

The table next to us had every opportunity to ask us to either quieten down or politely ask to be moved (again we were not being loud)

Instead one of the ladies on that table proceeded to stand up and yell abuse at me for a few minutes none stop, cursing numerous times and also telling me she was effectively ready to fight, and that she doesn’t shy away from confrontation. She said that I had apparently offended her mother when infact all I had done was said to my husband ‘we were just having a normal conversation’. Whilst we understand shoneys cannot themselves stop people acting that way, instead of asking the lady to calm down or be quiet they proceeded to say nothing and allow her to hurl abuse at us. After she walked away they said nothing and actually looked as if they were taking the side of the other people. I am pregnant and not feeling so well and I felt extremely uncomfortable and also scared about the lady physically confronting me or assaulting me as she insisted she wasn’t scared of confrontation if she needed too (she was twice my size).

Shoneys staff offered us no apology, they made us feel Like we were to blame when we did nothing wrong. We will not be returning to this shoneys ever again which is a real shame suggesting it’s been a family tradition for years. People like that should not be allowed to stay and dine, I was scared to go back up to the breakfast bar because that’s where they were sat and the lady had already insinuated she was willing to get physical with me If needed.

This is a jewel in the city. I have been a patron here for years when my children were small all the way to now their parents themselves they watched my children grow and they have been there to offer condolences as I've even lost a child. The staff here is wonderful and it's wonderful to know that there are faces that have been there for years that we have bonded to and grown with and some of us has even grown old with LOL. That small town home feeling that you get in a slightly larger City than where I came from feels good and it's comforting and makes me feel like I'm back home. If it's Sunday it must be shoney's senior bar and beverage. Today's outing was to Shoney's in North Knoxville (Broadway). This area is reclaiming its former glory. This shoney's is no exception. The exterior was well maintained. The vegetation and parking lot were well groomed. Exterior lighting was more than adequate. Inside the dining room appeared to be subdivided and decorated in three themes, again well executed. The space invited you in and assisted in helping you enjoy your meal. The bar featured breakfast and dinner items. At this shoney's it appears some table servers maintained the quantity and quality of items on the buffet AND provided warm personable service at the table. Every item on the buffet was seasonal (including what appeared to be a fresh picked tomato--yummy). Table servers tended to know what regular customers wanted. They also warmly welcomed new customers (like myself). The staff really worked well together My server tended to my tea and water but never badgered asking if things were okay. Older customers and those needing additional physical support were more than adequately tended to. The staff were ALWAYS pleasant even to customers who badgered (Lord no -- not me).
