I took my family here to celebrate wonderful news at work and wow; what a disappointment! The server did not introduce herself and give us her name, tell us about specials, signature dishes or otherwise interact with us about the menu, the bar or the wine list. Literally she put menus and rolled silverware in the pile at one end of the table, said she would be back with water and left.
She asked us if we wanted bread for the table, and though she did bring this promptly, never asked if we wanted any more after the rather meager baskets ran out quickly.
Mom's seafood bisque was room temperature during the appetizer course. We got there right at 5 and I presume they had not reheated it from the previous days service. I guess they just microwaved it, which is fine except they didn't do it for nearly long enough.
The 1 star I am giving rather than none is for two reasons. The crab cakes were well cooked and had a generous amount of crab. Though not the most well seasoned and with a nondescript remoulade, between the generous crab, the crunchy exterior and the beautiful garnish salad the overall experience was lovely. The steaks, as in the meat itself and the temperature of the cook on the steaks, was lovely. There were issues with the steak but these two facets if the steak were well and properly executed.
Though I was there with my mom and three kids, she did not anticipate the we would need extra plates when we got a porterhouse for the 3 kids to share belatedly bringing plates well into the dinner course. Same goes for bussing the appetizer plates, not attention to detail or pride of service in a not very busy establishment.
The wedge salad, mashed potatoes and mac and cheese, while fine, were not in any way distinctive from say Outback Steakhouse.
The steaks were ridiculously salty, all three of my kids complained to me as did my mom. When we complained to our disinterested server she asked if we wanted different steaks without seasoning. There was no apology, no, let me go get the chef, we encouraged her to try a bite or have the chef try a bite off a part that had not beet touched but she ignored us, and since we did not want new steaks simply wandered away from the table. Mom and I had gotten the surf and turf which came with a side if hollandaise. Mom requested some clarified butter, which the server said she would get and then never brought out.
The server remained inattentive until she asked about desert which we declined asking for the check.
She had not made any meaningful apology, made no adjustment to the meal nor did she offer any incentive for us to return and try them again.
When I asked for the manager I waited for about 10 minutes at which point my mom and kids had already gone to the car. She listened and offered a tepid apology and then said she would give us a couple of free dessert to go if I wanted. No meaningful apology, more of a "thanks for letting us know how you feel" that kind if brush off. Given the total disappointment of what was supposed to be a celebration, I politely decline and informed her that as a woman who works for a local small business I prefer to support other local small business and was so disappointed that this had been less fun than Texas Roadhouse or Outback. She made no meaningful efforts to make things right so I thanked her for her time and left.
Despite the terrible service and the disappointing food I tipped well and was polite to all around. Perhaps if I had been rude and loud they would have treated me better, but that is not my style. I wanted to love my local steakhouse...next time I'll go to Indy for...
Read moreWe were pleased with the good service – our server was personable, helpful and there when we needed her. Our entrees were excellent, between the four of us we had the lamb chops, grouper and Delmonico. The Delmonico was nicely seasoned and cooked a perfect medium rare. It was juicy and tender. The grouper was cooked perfectly, moist and firm and flavorful. The lamb was succulent and flavorful, perfectly cooked to medium rare as requested. The only problem with the lamb was the mustard sauce was overpowering, but that was easily rectified by scraping it off.
Now, for the less favorable things. The calamari was was just so so. The crispiness did not come through, thanks to the mediocre peanut sauce applied on top. I will not order it again. The other appetizer we shared was the truffle oil fries; they were not bad, could have been crisper. Neither appetizer was hot enough. It's like they were sitting under an under-powered heat lamp for a good while before being served. Similarly the onion straws I ordered for my side were completely cold and consequently were limp and unappetizing. The problems with food not being hot was surprising, considering we got there before they got busy, so it cannot be blamed on them being slammed. It's a minor point, but whoever created the recipes is obviously fond of rosemary because it was front and center in three of the dishes we had, a bit excessive in my opinion.
To summarize the whole experience, the great entrees and great service make it worth considering returning at some point. The disappointing appetizers and sides make it worth asking “is it worth the significantly higher than average prices?” We won't be rushing back, but at some point we will be giving them...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place... Unfortunately, I did not. We were sat at a table that was so small, it should be in a coffee shop, not a steakhouse. We ordered the onion appetizer that was essentially homemade onion crisps you put on top of green bean casserole (how are you supposed to eat that???). Even though our table was tiny, the person that brought our food didn't offered to take our appetizer or the plates... The table was so cramped, we had to slide our wine glasses out from under the plates before we lifted them up to drink! As for the meal itself, the filet was a GREAT cut of meat, but the natural deliciousness of it was over powered by the seasoning they put on AFTER the meat was cooked... How do I know this?! If it was seasoned before, it wouldn't have washed off with the butter they added on top. If you've got a beautiful cut of meat, there's no reason to muddy it with dried herbs and spices! Stick with salt, pepper, garlic, and butter! It would have been perfect!! The mashed potatoes were really good, but we got them Loaded and I couldn't believe they put Bacon Bits on those delicious tubers!! It's a travesty!! The asparagus was pretty good... Too meaty for my taste, but that's the way they've been in the grocery store, so I shouldn't complain! The chocolate cake was meh... Tasted like store bought cake with decent icing... Nothing I'd go back for. All in all, I was disappointed, to say the least. I bought 2 filets at Kroger the other day for half the price of one here, and mine turned out better... But this is why we don't eat out much. Lest I be completely critical, the homemade butter was amazing, and they...
