I'm not sure what happened to this place at all. Very sad seeing I used to come to this place a whole lot before when the price's matched the quality of there food. When I'd come in and have never had any issues and it was definitely great no issues and waitress where pleasant, that all changed last night.
Last night my fiance, 2 kids and myself dinned in. I would really expect if your price's go up on meals that the quality should at least be the same or better then before. I order normally the same thing's everytime the 2 grilled chicken breast meal with 2 sides and a cup a melted butter used to be 12.99 and it was great before normal great grilled and juicy. Unfortunately this time 17.99 now was first told only comes with 1 but had to point out it said 2 on the menu. So instead of up charging me for my soup she gave it to me with the meal. When I got my plate I was beyond shocked the 2 chicken breast looked very under cooked with not a sign of a grill mark let alone pan cook mark on it at all. Besides the fact my chicken breasts was as thin as 3 quarters stacked together. It looked like someone put these breast in the microwave to cook. It was very upsetting and I was disgusted. My fiance paid for the used to be all you can eat fish and chicken to get 2 of each. His chicken wouldn't even come off it was to overly fried. Should of known something was up when they brought me the French onion soup because it was by far not served as it used to be at all not at all. My fiance said something about my food because I couldn't eat any of it. I just replied I can eat this it doesn't seem OK to eat and I'll just eat some place else. So I brought up how his chicken isn't even edible either it's overly cooked. They took his plate left mine and then returned to bring me 2 more chicken breast still same size as before and this time I couldn't cut into it. I was just over it, was charged for all of it but 4 bucks was taken off for the chicken that was burnt. Never ever heard of this type of service at all with out trying to accommodate with things ain't right. That's bad service glad my kids got to eat with no complaints at all but I just wanted to get out of there. And we will never return after...
Read moreThis is an unapologetic throwback to the old school Wisconsin supper club, with touch of dive thrown in.
I have been staying in and going through La Crosse for 25 years. I'm sorry to have missed this place till now. My brother has recommended it for years.
This was my best restaurant experience in at least a year. I'm a picky fella because I cook well.
Her dish. 2 pork chops, salad, and baked potato. Homemade applesauce. 14 bucks.
Salad. They serve salad to at least 60% of the guests. Fresh crispy lettuce. Onion, cucumber, tomato. Perfect opener. This is not a roasted beet, goat cheese, almond Meyer lemon vinaigrette over arugula. This is a perfect old school Wisconsin supper club salad served fresh and tasty.
Pork chops. Center cut chops are tough to cook. These came out perfect. 145 degrees no pink just before they get tough. Needed a bit of salt.
Baked potato. If you get this far and mess up a baked potato then you wouldn't be getting this review.
His dish. 8 Oz filet mignon med rare. salad, hashbrowns, dup deal with shrimp scampi 28 bucks.
Salad same as above, except I had French and blue. Can't replicate the French easily, but if this isn't homemade blue, they spend the money on the good stuff.
Filet med rare. Perfect temp. A bit more salt.
Hashbrowns. I asked the server if you use food service hashbowns. She said she didn't know but they came out crispy.
Shrimp scampi has about a pound of butter on it. The bread soaks it up.
I meant to post this 3 years ago. I've been back 3 times since.
Same great place,...
Read moreI used to eat here a lot, but then they jacked up their prices at least $2 per dish in an overnight fasion. Now, there is plenty of parking though.... never do I see them packed anymore.
For the prices of their dinners, there are much better restaurants with professional cooks, rather than the kitchen staff there.
Last time I was there, paid the jacked up price for prime rib, and was disappointed by the meat ... it was over cooked and done medium all the way through, and this was at prime dinner time when things should have been fresh.
Also, they used to load up a condiments platter for your table and that came with the drinks. Now even that is scaled down, one pickle per person, one radish etc ,,,, instead of the little bigger plate that used to come. This is a small issue, but screams volumes of their thinking ... what else do they scrimp on then ... is my thinking.
They don't even have a website or daily specials or coupons etc for the thrifty ... sadly I think this place is struggling and going down. (they advertise their "daily special", but it's not discounted, so it's just featured, not a special)
Higher prices, lower food quality, plenty of parking. There are better places to spend your money at, at the same...
