On Wednesday morning about 7:30 my mom and I stopped in for breakfast. Small parking lot but big restaurant. I think we could have parked along either side of St James had we not squeezed in to a spot, so parking shouldn't be a problem and shouldn't scare you away if it's full...there is plenty of space inside! We had told Lori twice, to come back...we needed more time w the menu. As my mom and I perused the menu, I was going to just opt for two eggs and toast. My mom asked if I'like to share a bacon omelet and apple fritter french toast? Server Lori assured my mom they were delicious. I obliged For how not busy it was it felt like it took quite a bit for our food to come out. But.....once it did... worth the wait! I unfortunately had no room for my apple fritter french toast, my mom ate hers and exclaimed "this is the first time I've ever had french toast and didn't drown it in syrup.... I didn't even need syrup." Some bites she ate just the french toast, some she dipped the bite in a little syrup. It wasn't loud in Marges; not sure if it's because it wasn't busy or they just have great acoustics, either way, it's appreciated. I don't know what it was about the omelet... the bacon? The oil the eggs were cooked in? I didn't discuss w my mom her thoughts, but I thought there was a bit sweet taste to it! I liked that the tables all had small ads for local businesses! Way to keep it local/small! There was a white board on the wall w the delicious sounding daily Specials and quite a selection of pies! Thanks Marges for a delicious meal served by friendly staff in a welcoming and comfortable setting. Will stop in for lunch next time I'm in...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. Ordered breakfast this morning at 10:30 AM, waited and watched as no food was served in this greasy spoon for a half hour, then finally a few tables were served. After 45 minutes tables were served to people that came in after my wife and I. At the 1 hour mark after several cups of coffee the waitress said our food would be coming soon for all the people in our area. After 10 more minutes breakfast was served to everyone in our immediate area, but none for my wife and I. Finally the waitress came by and asked if we were the ones that ordered gravy on the side? I said yes, another 10 minutes went by and finally our orders were served. Both my wife and I notice right away that our food was stone cold. Ham on my wife's omelette was RAW and I mean uncooked. My bacon was undercooked and you could tie the fatty bacon in knots! Sausage gravy was cold as we're the over easy eggs. Toast was burnt and turned over, as if to hide that fact! When the waitress came back and we told her that the food was cold, all she could say was I will tell the kitchen. Can you believe it?! I've been to a lot of greasy spoons in my life and this was absolutely the worst that my wife and I have ever eaten at. That ham alone should get them shut down, being that could cause a very dangerous foodborne illness. Don't bother to waste your time or your possible health complications from eating...
Read moreFriday morning, September 18th, 2020. I went to pick up a breakfast order. I got into the front counter. There were at least 15 customers eating at tables. Apparently, they noticed I was there.
There were three waitresses on sight. Two were taking orders around tables, that was understandible. However, one was free. She was looking at me a couple times, not a word from her.
A while after, the other two waitresses finished taking orders and were standing and talkings. They didn't care about I was there for a long time. None of them have given me a word, not even one second looked at me. They came right on my sight passed by time to time.
One waitress took orders from customers behind me one after another like she didn't notice me or cared about I was there.
They have ignored me the whole time. I was standing there at least 20 minute and got into a point of boiling and trying to see if they would even going to ask me a word. All I wanted is May I Help You that was all, but no chance.
When there were no new customers coming in and no orders taking. One of the waitresses came and asked May I Help You. My question is, why not at the moment that I have entered the door and arrived at the counter like everyone else.
Am I invisible man or Casper to you. Why weren't one of you three waitresses noticing me.
This was my very first time to this restaurant and it will be my last...
