This rating is for our first time in for lunch, mainly the Chinese Chicken Salad (as written on the menu).
We have eaten there many times for dinner and enjoyed their excellent dishes and service.
Walking in for lunch, we noticed how quiet it was as only a couple of tables were being served. The TV was on but muted.
It was not busy! (Maybe that's the problem.) Obviously a different lunch-time cook.
We were seated in a few minutes by unsmiling waiter with a flat affect, as if he did not want to be there. He did respond to our requests timely during our meal.
We ordered one Daily Special consisting of orange chicken, egg flower soup, one egg roll and rice. Also one appetizer of chinese chicken salad and hot tea for both. About $12 each.
Sorry, no pics.
The salad was huge and looked like it could feed two people. It consisted of overly large, quartered tomatoes, oversized rough-hand-torn ice berg lettuce, with too much sloppy dressing. The chicken was composed of such tiny pieces of what looked like leftover trim pieces from other menu choices. No finesse, at all. I ended up asking for a knife and chopping up everything to bite size myself.
The dressing actually tasted okay, BUT, they're were No mandarin oranges, no finely chopped purple Cabbage, no minced ginger, no crunchy noodles, No ginger. It looked like a child tried to make a salad for the first time. I mean, come on, at least watch a couple of YT or TT videos!
Moving on. The orange chicken pieces were so small that you really only tasted the crunchy coating. The egg roll was too perfectly rolled so it was cooked from frozen. The rice was barely tolerable as it looked like it was scooped with a giant ladle and put on the plate in the shape of the ladle.
We won't be back for lunch. Time will tell if we return for dinner. We moved away from the Silver Palace. Guess we'll have to travel a bit to get the quality...
Read moreThis place is really good for the price. Staff is very friendly. Would recommend looking at their daily specials. Daily specials come with rice, your meat, cup of soup, egg roll, and a paper wrapped chicken. For two people getting the daily special with water and hot tea I normally spend about 20 dollars before tip. Sweet and sour chicken & orange chicken is good. Mongolian beef has alot of onions but has good flavor. Hot tea is free.
This post was from 5 years ago, and since then alot has changed It has changed owners a couple of times. I believe it recently changed owners again, so hopefully, they will change it for the better. Since the first owners left, they were two asian ladies, it kind of went downhill. It's the little things such as removing the peas and carrots from the fried rice, changing the egg rolls, and changing the recipies of things; the orange chicken used to be juicy and freshly fried to a crisp. The last time i had the orange chicken it tasted like a fast food chinese takeout place, amd not in a good way.Things like that matter, so I'm hoping the new people make it deserve the 5 stars I put up 5 years ago. I recently went back to get my favorite hot and sour soup, and it was okay but not great. The previous owners, with glasses, had the soup tasting bland, and I would hardly ever have the thin mushrooms in it anymore; hardly any tofu either. This last time, with different people, still no mushrooms, but more tofu; which is awesome. However, I think they put sugar because it had a sweet after taste, which was a little off-putting. I have great hope for this place because I would always recommend it to everyone and I would bring my friends and family to eat here. An elderly family friend, before she died, would always rant and rave about this place. I'll be returning soon to see how things change, hopefully...
Read moreThis has become our go to restaurant for Chinese food. We have enjoyed a few other places that we would go to when we were in the mood for Chinese, but one night during the Spring Covid shut-down we stumbled upon this long-standing restaurant due to changing hours at some of our other favorites. Needless to say, we no longer consider any other location, and only get our Chinese food here. Our only meat options are seafood, so we are usually limited, but this fine establishment has been willing to alter any recipe possible with shrimp, tofu, or vegetables (if it would make sense). The eggrolls, cream cheese wontons, soups, and entrees we have tried have all been wonderful. We even introduced some family to the restaurant, and they also were very satisfied and enjoyed the meat dishes they tried.
On top of all this, the team I have had the pleasure of speaking to on the phone and in person for pickup have all been absolutely wonderful. They are appreciative you are choosing their business, and it is obvious in their...
