Kotija Mexican Food — Restaurant in La Mesa

I wanted to love this place. Friendly staff, good location, problematic food. The first time I got a bone in my food, I didn't love it, but it happens. It wasn't a big deal. I kept going back. Unfortunately, I got bones in every order of rolled tacos or anything with meat. And the most recent time, I got rolled tacos again, and every single bite had huge bones in it. I couldn't continue eating it. It felt like I was biting bones the size of teeth. They were huge. At least 5 bones in ONE rolled taco! There's zero way they missed these large bones all the way throughout their meat when making this food. I sat there while the rest of my party ate and I ate nothing. Not sure what the point is of selling something like that to people, but a rolled taco completely full of bones was the last chance for this place for me. Before that I overlooked the fact that one of the trash cans was too close to the tables and sometimes attracted flies. The guacamole was also watery and had an unsatisfying taste. And I love guacamole. I have tried many over the years and this was bottom 10. I give it points for at least not being brown and not having anything odd in it. My friend had potato tacos and enjoyed them. Having said all of that, the staff is always friendly. The temperature is not controlled. The doors stay open. The salsa is good and they are happy to give you an ample amount. The tables look nice and have been clean every time. If you want to try their food, though, do so at your own risk. I'm a burrito lover and I can say that their carne asada is pretty delicious. The meat quality is excellent and fresh. The taste of the meat is rich, vigorous, well-fried and the salt is perfect for me. Vegetables and avocado sauce were added in due quantity to the dish. This place is straight gasolina! I’ve never had a bad experience here. The staff are always friendly, quick, and give you a great service. I always enjoy coming back. Tonight, I got the carne asada fries. The fries were crispy and meat was tasty and I’m picky with my carne asada fries and I can say its one of the best one here in SD.
