Narumi Sushi — Restaurant in La Mesa

I had eaten at this restaurant many times and it became one of my family's favorites. We even began to get to know the staff (waitress with tattoos and a nose ring, Asian Sushi chef, etc.). The food was fantastic with the change in ownership - much better than before. Then the unforgivable happened. I arrived with my family and put our name in - it was getting so popular that you had to wait and they didn't take reservations. Some people showed up about 10 minutes after me and one of the girls in their party cut in front of me and spoke with the waitress & then the sushi chef ( I believe he is the owner). Again, there are no reservations at this restaurant. I could see that she was trying to cut in front of me and my family so I spoke with the waitress and informed her of this and she acknowledged we were first and we were going to be seated first. We waited another 5 minutes and all of the sudden the party waiting behind us was called in and seated. I immediately went to the Sushi chef and the waitress and reminded them that we were first and they just gave away our seats when they already promised we'd be seated next - and they did it right in front of us. I asked them why and told them if they didn't give us the table and make it right we would leave and never return. They gave me no answer and didn't even apologize. It was about the rudest treatment I've had in years at a restaurant and extremely unprofessional. I took my family and left and have never been back. Narumi Sushi is a cute hole in the wall with great food! The seating is extremely limited (three booths and two bar/counter type seating options, probably a max of 20-25 seats in the whole restaurant) and they're currently offering every order in takeout boxes rather than dishes, which I imagine makes staffing and managing a lot easier. It is a little frustrating because of the huge plastic waste and lack of service, but as I understand they are still recovering from covid restrictions. The decor is absolutely adorable, lots of wood signs and turtle motifs! The staff were friendly and let us know about the boxes when we arrived, gave us our menu and let us seat ourselves. The food was amazing! A little under average pricing for quality sushi, and the bento boxes are a good deal! My partner and I particularly enjoyed the chicken karaage, sesame soy chicken with rice, thunder roll and Louisiana roll. The tempura and edamame were also fresh and well made. The spider roll was a bit of a disappointment and seemed different from the description but not too bad. They don't have many drink options but all the basic sodas as well as green tea. We went when it was rainy so the parking lot was pretty clear, but other reviews mention trouble parking since there's a Michael's and other stores in the same strip. Overall a very nice experience! Well I thought the sushi itself was decent. However I did get a little sick. But can't say it was a sushi for sure. What I can say is that this place is filled with thieves. I ordered my food, paid for my food, came home and ate my food. Today I wake up and find that my account is short $2. These people took it upon themselves to add a $2 charge to my order. Causing my bank account to be overdrawn. If you quote me a price of $28.10 and I pay it. The only other thing that should be happening is me getting my food not you adding more money to my charge and not telling me. Bank penalties alone at this time can mean everything. I budgeted for a special treat and now I'm being penalized for that because they took money that I did not have for them to take. Nor did I authorize them to take. I'd like to know who's going to pay my bank penalties. I am so angry I'm seeing red and it's in my account. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. And anyone else I can. Never ever going there and I highly recommend you don't either.
