I tried La Mesa Pizza Works today and I'm really happy that I did. After I placed my order online, I received an email from the Slice app saying that it was going to take longer than expected, but I gave them a call shortly before I was planning to pick it up, and they said that it was already ready - not sure why the app was wrong.

I eat meat, so I was thinking their pizza might be bland without it, but I decided to try the Rosemary Potato Pizza and garlic fries with ranch, and it was great! The pizza dough reminded me of focaccia and its not too doughy or thick, it was light and tasty. The seasoning was perfect, not too much, not too little. All the flavors went well together, the fries were fresh, not limp or greasy, and I could taste the truffle and parmesan.... perfect with ranch! Honestly, I didnt miss the meat - there was no need to bring in another flavor because it was so balanced and flavorful as it was! I will definitely order this again, and Im looking forward to trying more from their menu.

At night, it's hard to tell whether or not they are open because there is usually a van parked out front which belongs to a neighboring tenant in the shopping center, and it blocks your view of the windows, making it hard to see their lights at night. Don't let that stop you. Swing by and try them out! Be aware that they observe the Sabbath on Saturday, so check their...

La Mesa Pizzaworks is the new kid in town. Not only that, but they are also a Kosher supervised by the San Diego VAAD.

I didn't get a whole pie, but some slices to try a variety. I tried the margharita, the BBQ, the "I can't not believe it is pepperoni" slice. All the slices were great. I was particularly fond of the BBQ sauce on one of the slices. I learned it is a house made kosher sauce, and it's delicious! It's definitely a keeper.

The plant based pepperoni was great, too. It is a little on the think side, but that promotes a good chew. Its flavor was spot on, and their mind and palate registered pepperoni indeed. The Margharita slice was good, too. The sauce was tasty, and the basil was fresh.

The crust on all their pizzas is slightly bready and could use a little chew, in my opinion. It is a very good house made kosher crust.

They offer a good amount of inside seating. The menu consists of pizzas, leafless salads, appetizers, soups, pastas, and my favorite: calzones, which I look forward to trying on my next visit. The service was...

My wife and I had been meaning to try this place for awhile, since it's practically across the street from our place. Our litmus test for any pizza place is a classic pepperoni. Now I admit it's my fault for not even looking at the menu, BUT - the guy who took our order who even asked us if we had ever eaten there before only mentioned the pepperoni was soy-based until after we had completed the transaction. So, we're in that sort of awkward spot where we figured there is a good chance that we weren't going to like what we just ordered - but we also didn't want to have a totally closed mind to it. So we didn't say anything and took it home. If I had one word to describe their soy based pepperoni, I would use the word "vile." It truly was awful, both in taste and smell. We picked it all off and were able to eat the pizza just cheese, but that lingering soy-pepperoni taste was...

Driving between appointments, looking for a quiet place for lunch. Saw the sign for Subway and parked in front. The door to this place is directly adjacent so I thought I'd give it a go once I saw that individual slices were available. Ordered the 2 slice special: 1 pepperoni, one Margherita. The guy warned me the pepperoni was vegan, which intrigued me. It was very good. If he hadn't told me it wasn't meat, I would not have known. But of course the real cheese means the slice isn't vegan. Still very good. But the Margherita slice was out of this world! Perhaps the best slice I've ever eaten. The single-seat all-gender restroom was immaculate and very large but had no urinal. He offered a free soda refill. You need to try this place.

When I lived in San Diego from 1994 to 2004, our small Jewish community had a few kosher eateries. There was: Lang's Loaf for bagels and Shmoozers for pizza in the College Area, and for more upscale dining there was Sheila's and Les Marais in the La Jolla area. Sadly, they're all long gone now. But happily, in East La Mesa, Pizzaworks opened about one year ago. It's bright, spacious, and offers a wide variety of pizzas (whole pies, or by the slice), salads, and ice cream with plenty of tables for a sit down meal. The service was quick, although on this occasion my extra pineapple topping was forgotten when served. But, they made it right by giving me a second order, with pineapple, on the house.

I discovered La Mesa Pizzaworks through TooGoodToGo and was excited to support a local pizzeria committed to fighting food waste. While I appreciate their efforts and the affordable $4.99 Surprise Bag deal, the food provided was cold and seemed like leftovers rather than fresh pizza from the day. However, when I brought this up, the cashier was very kind and warmed it up for me, which I really appreciated. A warm, fresh meal would enhance the overall experience and better reflect the spirit of TooGoodToGo. Thank you to the staff for being accommodating and for their friendly service!
