This little place has been around for quite a while now in Whittier, from back when the Superior was just a Vons. The quality of the establishment has been consistent through the years, calling back to my middle school years it's just as a I remembered it.

At first glance, it seems rather pricey, especially if you haven't peeked at the photos of what a "slice" really is. You could equate a slice to something like a personal pizza to something the size of Pizza Hut's family meal. It's anywhere from $4 to around $8 to get a nice lunch combo with an extremely filling slice of pizza with a (side) salad and a drink.

The pizza itself probably wouldn't be a good choice if you're the kind of person that must have all the ingredients, since the price scales upwards with more toppings. BUT, hear me out, it doesn't need it. The singular topping is more than enough to provide you with a bounty of flavor with the oozing cheese and crispy under crust. This pizza is /thick/ but it's not weak, it's airy, and holds up to its own shape, if you're a bread lover, or carb-lover, this pizza's very foundation is something you must try.

As for the ranch, you could literally drink it - and I'm not trying to say it's watery. It's the perfect consistency to where it's creamy but still flows yet doesn't just end up sliding off whatever you decide to put it on. In that same consistent manner, every next bite is the same as the first - it doesn't get heavier nor saltier, it's just right; like a tzatziki.

It's not your traditional pizza but the flavors and essential parts are fantastic and I'd be pressed hard to say it's not the best kind to go...

We have been loyal and faithful take out patrons at this establishment since they first opened. The food has always been great. It is most always extremely busy, many times you can't get through on the phone to place an order. We have had many experiences of calling an order in, being told that in 30 minutes or 45 minutes it will be ready. Our designated pick up person gets there and A.) they can't find the order - are we sure we placed it? B.) They forgot it and haven't even started it. I have made it clear to the order taker that they do not want to mess up the order I am calling in as it has already happened too many times. All the times we have had problems not once has any sort of reparation been offered. This should tell you the food is great!

Ambrose Pizzeria is well known for game day get togethers. The draft beer goes out in pitchers with cold mugs and people seem to really enjoy it. Kids will enjoy a small arcade off the dining room. It is a loud and enthusiastic group attending Game viewings and they all appear to be having fun.

Our Favorite dishes are: Chicken Fettucine Alfredo (add mushrooms!!), Spaghetti with meat sauce and extra cheese, both meat and sausage lasagna, and any type of pizza! ...

I like what they are trying to do but it’s not my cup of tea. I got the Lunch Special #1 which is a soda, salad, and large pizza slice. The salad was a small green salad that I wasn’t expecting and it was a perfect size. The pizza slice wasn’t really a slice. It was a pizza in the shape of a triangle. The difference is a slice has one edge of crust and two sides of moist, cooked dough. The triangle-shaped pizza makes every piece of the triangle a crust and the bit of dough that isn’t crust is cooked stiff. Not burned but stiff like a thick cracker. I’d prefer the pizza to have some soft spots that aren’t so tough on my teeth. It’s a great deal for lunch. I don’t think I’ll get it again. I will try to be back to see how their regular pizza is. I suspect it’s probably good but I was solo and the idea of a slice made sense. I took a picture that I hope helps show what I ordered.

Whole heartedly a love and bias for Ambrose. Take that in consideration for why I gave my experience a 5 start. Because I love their food, their location. We Wifey and I can here for lunch. I wanted a sandwich and was thinking of those other joints. She suggested Ambrose and boy was she right. We both had the Italian Club. Ok you may argue too much lettuce, not enough meat. I say opposite. Love the thing sliced lettuce. The meats in the sandwich are plentiful and tasty. But the star and it has been for decades is the bread. The right composition of softness in the crust , firm middle and wonderful taste. The bread recipe is regional treasure. The staff has changed in 20 plus years but service still makes this feel like a local hangout. Keep going Ambrose I will keep being a loyal fan.

2 starts only because I've been here in the past for my lunch hour because it's a decent pizza for the money. Not good or bad but definitely too much crust. Today I waited an hour for a pastrami sandwich because they forgot to start my order. Was supposed to be dine in and ended up having to take it out. Then I got the sandwich and it was greasy , meat was cold, and worst of all they forgot the pickles. Ended up having a bite and tossing the sandwich, I love pastrami but this was the worst I've had. My coworkers pizza crust was hard and they both ended just eating the toppings. Mistakes happen, but staff didn't even apologize or show any remorse. Won't bother coming back again to waste my time or money.
