I should have walked out immediately, I had a bad feeling about this place.
The dining area was just boring. Stereotypical Japanese decorations on the wall, pale yellow walls, a drab environment inside to match the drab environment outside. And sriracha on the table? Sigh! This place is about as Japanese as Taco Bell is Mexican.
Chicken teriyaki and tempura combo. Cost $11 with tax, pretty steep. Would pay the same in Little Tokyo for actual Japanese food. These Korean run "Japanese" food places are embarrassing. Silly sushi and bad Japanese-American dishes. The flavor of the teriyaki wasn't bad. The salad dressing included in the bento box was horrible though! Not much variety in the tempura: yam, yam yam, shrimp, zucchini. And I felt jipped on the rice, a tiny half cup mound.
I felt I had to give it a shot, but I don't see myself returning. If you're not so picky about your Japanese food, you might be perfectly...
Read moreUnder new ownership. Recipes are completely different. The tempura batter batter was boring, the chicken for teriyaki chicken bowls was mediocre, and I had to request more sauce because it was dry. The veggies in the bowl we undercooked and basically raw. The udon soup lacked flavor. We definitely miss the old recipes from the previous owner. Food portions are good for the price. Thank goodness we decided to share just in case so not to be so wasteful. My kids usually always finish their bowls, but not this time. No fountain sodas, only canned and bottled drinks. The cashier was kind and helpful. The atmosphere.. almost non-existent. Just people eating as we were ending, they turned some jyp station on but very low but barely audible. It was very quiet. Made it feel like it's supposed to be a library. Unfortunately, after several years of coming here... we will not be returning. Good luck with your...
Read moreSadly the restaurant is under new management and menu so the golden age is officially over. I came back from a long holiday over seas to find out Chuck and Melody have sold the place. After tasting the food from the new owners it's clear that the quality has taken a nose dive. The miso (Chucks was THE best in the world) is now a diluted bowl of water. The ribs lack the savory flavor. Orange chicken was "strangely shaped and breaded". Tuna is "off" and the food was served "warm". If you are a long time customer I feel for you (for us). Wanting so much to enjoy the food I had enjoyed for over 10 years and one day it's just gone. All good things come to an end I reckon. I wish Chuck and Melody all the luck. I wish the new owners well and hope they can improve their food and maintain the standards held before. I don't see it happening anytime soon. It was a good run. RIP...
