I recently visited Shabuya in La Mirada with a group of friends, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. While the concept of an all-you-can-eat hotpot restaurant seemed appealing, the overall atmosphere and lack of proper air conditioning quickly dampened our excitement.
The first thing that struck us upon entering the restaurant was the stifling heat. The air conditioning was barely functional, and on a scorching summer day, it became an uncomfortable ordeal. My friends and I were sweating profusely while attempting to enjoy our meal, which significantly detracted from the dining experience.
Our server, to her credit, was trying her best to be attentive and accommodating. However, it was evident that the intense heat was taking its toll on her as well. The situation was exacerbated by the fact that Shabuya is a relatively large establishment, and it was surprising that such a spacious venue lacked sufficient cooling to keep its patrons comfortable.
The food itself was decent, and the hotpot ingredients offered a variety of choices. However, it was challenging to enjoy the meal fully when the sweltering conditions distracted us from savoring the flavors.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend visiting Shabuya during the summer months. The discomfort caused by the inadequate air conditioning significantly overshadowed any positives the restaurant had to offer. While the staff tried their best under the circumstances, the lack of a cool and pleasant dining environment ultimately left a lasting negative impression.
If you do decide to try Shabuya, I strongly advise doing so during cooler seasons or ensuring that the air conditioning issues have been resolved to avoid an...
Read moreWe had a pretty big group...11 total 3 were smaller kids. First timers here, overall pretty good. Food was good lots of options lets you change up every flavor profile in each bite. The meat flowed pretty good and well it was all you can eat yum.. the only negative: its was about an hour and half wait so I asked if we would be able to have some drinks while we wait. The host was nice she went to go find out and then told us we could. I went to order some drinks and asked if we could sit at the bar since there were all empty seats they said yes. 2 pitchers of beer and couple bottles of Soju in we were having a good time until a server said over the radio "when its this busy we shouldn't let people drink while waiting for a table" next thing I know they said we had to close our tab which was fine since a short time after we got a table. However it kinda ruined the rest of the experience for me because I worked in the hospitality biz for 2o years plus booze has the biggest profit margins especially keg beer. Which tells me that they kinda don't know what they are doing because if the profit margins are the greatest with booze and they dont want you to drink, then you clearly dont have a good understanding of the restaurant business. Every so often as I was eating I kept thinking about what happened earlier and didn't order any more drinks the whole nite while eating just because of what happened at the bar...missed revenue for sure! If that didnt happen I would have given 4 stars (or wouldn't have wrote a neg. review)..but sadly Im not. If you go and dont want to drink you should be ok. Luckily the birthday girl didn't know what happened and had a good time so...
Read moreWasn't sure what to expect from this restaurant, but was very pleasantly surprised! My simple description of Shabuya is...make your own Asain type soup and cook it right at your table.
There are 7 soup bases and 10 shaved meat chioces to start making your soup with. Add to that a wide variety of vegetable add-ins, tofu, wontons, seafood and different types of noodles, from a huge salad bar as well as a good selection of flavorful sauces. What I liked about it, is that the different meats added a different flavor to the soup base. I also felt like I was eating a healthy meal...soup, loaded with LOTS of veggies. You really don't even need the meats. There is so much vegetable variety, that you could make a very hearty and good tasting vegetarian soup.
My suggestion for the soup... Take advantage of the different varieties of meat and choices at the salad bar. Let it all cook, grab a big plate, from the salad bar, take out everything that you put in the soup, leaving as much broth as possible, for your next round and eat the cooked veggies and meat on the big plate. Doing it like this, also makes it easier to top your food with the different flavorful sauces that the restaurant has.
The decor is very modern and the atmosphere is up beat with modern lighting and good background music. The staff is very friendly and helpful in case you don't know what your doing.
At first, when you see the price, you might think it's a little pricey for just soup, but when you consider that it's all you can eat and after having at least 3 BIG servings of soup, in my opinion, the $22 lunch or $29 dinner isn't bad. I'd highly recommend Shabuya to anyone....5...
