We had such high hopes for this place. It looked good; happy hour Mon-Fri, good deals on meals. We went Monday, on MLK day. Place was busy enough, but not too busy where we had to wait long to get a table. I could only see two servers, which seemed adequate.
We had some questions about the menu, and the server didn't seem to be at all familiar with it. How big was the sashimi? What came in the miso ramen? Nope, he had no idea. That was our first red flag.
We ordered the tuna sashimi, which isn't cheap, mind you. When we got it, I remarked on the EXTREME beet-redness of the fish, which is usually a good sign, but the minute we began to cut it up for our daughter, it smelled VERY fishy and not at all fresh. We suspect they add food coloring to it, as it left red residue on the rice and the plate (pictures attached). My husband ordered the tonkotsu ramen, which looked NOTHING like the picture, the broth was watery and bland, and the meat was very meh. The broth wasn't even the same color as in the menu.
We also ordered the spicy scallop rolls, which were on happy hour. I'm all for big servings, but this dish looked like they overboiled some scallops, drenched it in sweet sauce, then just dumped a huge amount on top of spicy california rolls.
The albacore sushi was just okay, the popcorn chicken was also just alright.
If you're just coming here for a few california rolls and maybe a crunch roll, you won't be able to taste the old fish taste, but if you're looking for fresh sushi and quality sashimi, this is not the...
Read moreUnder no circumstances should you order the spicy ramen, it is Shin instant ramen with an egg dropped in it, slices of highly processed fish cake, and rough cuts of green onions; that is all you are served in a big white bowl.
My girlfriend ordered an albcore poke bowl, luckily that was better than the ramen. It came with pices of fresh albacore, greens, well cooked rice, avocado, and a good amount of imitation crab, served in a large white bowl as well.
We also ordered Takoyaki as an appetizer, but it came out after our main entrée (which makes sense). But the Takoyaki was more gooey than usual, I suspect it was under cooked. But over all it tasted fairly well.
We went during happy hour so the meal was somewhat cheap, and we also had free icecream as a dessert. I ordered matcha and my girlfriend ordered cookies and cream. The matcha icecream had far too much creaminess and you could not taste the matcha. The cookies and cream was the normal cheap cookies and cream flavor, not too...
Read moreWOW! I was truthfully a little skeptical... Happy Hour ALL day on Monday and Tuesday? $3 & $4 rolls? I thought for sure that these were appetizer size rolls, so I asked to keep the menu - I mean, I'd only ordered two of these things; I'm sure I'll need more... It couldn't be enough, RIGHT?? Of course, I had to have a $1.95 draft Sapporo (but that too, had to be a mini mug at that price, right? NOPE - regular sized mug!) I'll say it again - WOW!
The Spicy Tuna Tempura Roll and the Alaska Roll were FANTASTIC - and they were FULL-SIZE rolls!!! At this rate, I knew I'd have plenty to eat, and the beer was cheap enough, so I had a second beer... 🍻
That was it, I was DONE, FULL, NO MORE! So I asked for the check... Food, 2 beers & tax = $13.24 ! 😮 !
WTH? This is Southern California! (I'm from Michigan, where things are a little less expensive) Who provides this quality AND quantity at such low prices... Let me tell you,...
