I was driving by this restaurant and the outside caught my attention. Pure Texas. Looked very promising, cool, and when I think about it now, very touristy. It worked, I turned around and decided to give it a try. I should have realized that the parking lot being empty during what is normally lunch time for most restaurants, (1pm), on a Saturday afternoon would indicate that looks can be deceiving. The owners have put a lot of money into this place. They have cattle statues outside to greet you, a large porch, a live music patio and even a playground for kids. Really pleasing to the eyes. The inside is full of Texas murals on the walls and cool taxidermy. Texas Western style. But the food was nothing like I expected. I was very disappointed. They give you a basket of mini cornbread muffins and butter which looked really yummy and southern for sure, but tasteless. Not even a tinge of sweet. Most folks in Texas ( not all but most) prefer sweet cornbread. These reminded me of dried up sawdust with egg batter. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. The corn was pretty bleh, the mashed potatoes were mid at best. The chicken fried steak was good compared to everything else. This had some flavor in the meat AND in the breading. So it wasn't a complete bust. I don't even like country music, but this place has a vibe and the music they were playing in the background killed the vibe altogether. Oldies classic rock like the Beatles don't fit this atmosphere they at all. Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Vince Gill or some 90's country playing in the background would make sense when there isn't a live band playing. The music they had was adding to the disappointment considering I thought this place would be 🔥. Lastly, they really need to replace some of the cushions in their booths. Busted up, flattened cushions need to go. My waitress was great and attentive. This place could be amazing if they worked on their recipes and added some real southern flavor, fixed the background music and repalced the...
Read moreThis was my first time that I was there and it was fair but my wife and I have had far better from busier places. The atmosphere and decor are pleasant and the busers, hostess and most of the wait staff are pleasant. My wife even took her time to point out the stunning figure one of the bus girls had with a long black pony tail ... And yes the eye candy was all worth it because that's where the fun stops. Our waiter was an older gentleman with a rough on the edges demeanor. When taking our drink order he barely looked at me and didn't even glance at my wife before already turning around to focus on another table that was just seated. Drinks were served fast and promptly but after that we never saw our waiter again because one of the bus boys brought our food. Once the food arrived ( I got the three piece catfish dinner and the wife got the fried crawfish ). Our sides were mixed up but that's nothing major. But what is a problem is when your mashed potatoes are the wrong style and your waiter tells you a lie that they are garlic parmesan when they are clearly standard plain mashed potatoes with gravy. Also he never came back, never asks if we need anything, how things are going. Instead we got a waiter who didn't seem to want to be bothered that would walk past our table taping straws on the table along the way to other tables. Finally when he did bother to check on us was when it was time for a drink refill about the same time we were leaving. When handed the check he didn't bother speaking to us but instead placed it on the corner of the table and just kept walking. The presentation of the food just felt uninspired and lazy and was a bit on the Luke warm / cold side. In the future we may return and try other menu item but it wasn't a bad visit but could use work in regards to how some employees treat...
Read moreSaturday evening 7:00pm arrived to celebrate my husband birthday. While waiting to be seated First thing I hear is a group of young people gathered together carrying on a conversation and cursing loudly enough that already gave me a negative impression of the restaurant. We were seated and the waitress took our drink order and appetizers. We ordered our food and third minutes later we get our food. Bread tasted very reheated that it was dry and chewy. My pork chop was so dry that when I used my fork to cut it the fork bent. There was two other families eating so I didn’t understand why it took the waitress so long to give us refills, there was another gentleman that came by our table and asked us if we wanted refills ( my guess he was the manager). As I approached the front counter to pay the same group of people were still gathered, still carrying a cursing conversation and I made the comment “ they sure curse a lot here” and the person taking care of bagging an order he was working with said “ I am sorry that guy is new” unacceptable, lousy excuse for a family oriented restaurant. I’m not the employer but I counted at least 10 people doing nothing in the two hours we were there and there was only two other families having dinner, and on one table the gentleman went to the counter to ask for condiments since the waitress taking care of them never came around. Also my son in law and I saw the hostess slapping another employee and when I approached the counter to pay she looked like she had been crying. My take on this outing. 1) not family friendly, 2) food unacceptable, 3) re-evaluate the staff. I own and work in the food industry. It’s a shame that in my point of view if this doesn’t get corrected it may not last...
