Chula features unaddressed service failures that appear to be systemic when I read other reviews. We arrived around 11:10 and were told the wait was approximately 10 minutes. After 22 minutes, we inquired whether we could sit at a vacant community table. The affirmative response was the first in a series of benign neglects that culminated in the absolute worst service I have encountered in thousands of restaurants. I was surprised this option wasn't offered and that the hostess was not aware that we had been waiting. After being seated for an excessive amount of time without any acknowledgement (a guess is 10 minutes), a member of our party approached a staff member to inquire about service. This was the second strike. Because of the amount of time that elapsed, we placed our orders for food and drinks to expedite. I ordered a Margherita. Another excessive period of time passed. The focus of our time together moved from the joy of comradery and a shared meal to the lack of service. Waitstaff never a checked in with the table. After another 10 minutes, I got up from the table and went to the server to inquire about my drink. She said it is on its way. I am assured but now circumspect. I watched; I waited. After another excessive period of time passed, the drink appears on the bar and sits. I consider going to retrieve it myself but decide to see how long this will take. As a reminder, she has been approached twice by us. Any experienced person in any customer facing job would realize the guests may be getting exasperated. Needing to seek out a server repeatedly because of lack of interaction is uncommon in my experience. The server passes the drink on the bar 5 times going back and forth to the kitchen and dining room. Finally, she delivers the drink. Apologies are not offered. The final straw was people that were seated after us were served their meals. Our party is well into an hour of neglect. A member of our party expresses his absolute displeasure with the lack of service to the hostess. We have partial setups, no water service and the food is nowhere in sight and no interaction with waitstaff to acknowledge or explain the delay. I was not in earshot so I can not report the exchange between this gentlemen and the hostess. I know this man well; he is patient and even keeled but was also clearly upset over the neglect of this situation. The next interaction was the culmination and leads me to believe that the service issues are systemic and uncorrectable. Mind you, we are over an hour into this disaster. A person ( I have no idea what her position is) comes up to the table and reprimands us that she will not stand for disrespect of the staff. Her approach was certainly the incorrect path. I looked at my phone and it was 12:54. We had been seated for over an hour and never had an interaction with our waiter that we did not solicit. My colleague avers to this person that he has been disrespected and the neglect in the service was unacceptable. We all chimed in on what had happened and I believe that she began to realize that we were not unreasonable, but clearly justifiably upset. At this time, the food arrives cold. I surmise that it had been sitting but I have no proof. It is a shame. I waited 2 days to write this review because of the disgust I felt at the experience. Dining out is one of life's little pleasure but this horrible experience left me angry and...
Read moreOur number one pick for a breakfast or lunch experience in La Quinta.
UPDATE: I know this is a rave review, just want to add, two years later, it is still the best breakfast and lunch around. The menu has changed, and Nancy is not happy that the Green Chile Biscuits are no longer available, but the food is still outstanding. Keep it up.
You must work to find this gem; it does not face directly on Washington rather it is behind Louise’s’.
First and foremost, the food is amazing as in so good it defies an easy comparison. It has a depth of quality and flavor I seldom associate with a breakfast/lunch restaurant. We learned that it is indeed chef driven, and it shows. So, off the bat, don’t expect traditional fare. The food and service are at another level. And it is a very good level.
The coffee is great. They have a local roaster brand. The quality is outstanding. They serve cream, heated on the side. They do custom coffees, of course they do.
We had the Heavenly Hollandaise Green Chile Biscuits, which is poached eggs, hollandaise on a green chile biscuit. Yeah, great, and on a bed of greens. Also tried the Brioche French Toast, a sweet delight. Fresh strawberries on the day we were there. By the way they have homemade strawberry jam that is amazing.
Also tried the Green Chile Monte Cristo. Think of a Monte Cristo sandwich made on a quesadilla but then dipped in egg and deep fried. I liked it so much I will have it again. Served with applewood smoked bacon this is really a showstopper.
The décor is unique and very comfortable. Odd matched furniture, soft couches, just welcoming. Lots of things to look at on the walls and very much an enjoyable experience. We found the service to be exceptional. It is not a 15 minute eat your eggs and leave. This is a restaurant, so expect a restaurant kind of experience. And it is not inexpensive. But then it is no cheap in quality or flavor. We have been three times and have averaged an hour or longer each time. I...
Read moreLet me start off first by saying this is my third time eating at this resturant and the food is great and the place itself has a beautiful decor and vibe this visit I did go with my daughter and we ordered their delicious coffee and we ordered our food so the waiter brought us our food and me and my daughter we're really heavy into conversation so into taking my first bite of food the waiter comes and takes my plate right away from under me as I took my first bite and proceeded to tell me oh this was not your plate and I was so embarrassed I still had the fork in my hand I didn't even know what to say as my face was so embarrassed so he quickly took it away from me and I still had to wait for my plate awhile longer while my daughter was already eating her food but she was also surprised as this waiter just quickly took the plate from under me I was debating about talking to the manager as I thought this was very rude. If I was a waiter I would had politely apologized to the customer and said I did give her or him the wrong plate and left it there and asked if I still wanted it which I would have gladly said yes and still paid for my plate it wasn't my mistake that they served me the wrong order . This makes me think twice about going back to this restaurant and I love Chula and this was my favorite breakfast place to sit and enjoy with whoever I brought with me I also recommended this place as it...
