If you are new to the Jersey Shore, lived here all of your life, vacationing or just passing through, The German Butcher is the place to stop! They literally have something for everyone. And might I add, the most friendliest staff! I have gotten to know several employees over the years after becoming a town-y.
I would like to take the time to share my experience I had this passed Saturday:
I was in a rush, as always. However, the newer efficiency of The German Butcher had me in and out in just a few minutes and that was all thanks to John: who I distinctly remember saying his name as : "Big John" after he gave me the Jersey, fist bump. It was honestly the perfect early-spring "Welcome to The Jersey Shore."
I would also like to thank a catering staff member: Mel. Her sunny disposition is more than refreshing! Every time I see her, she brings a smile to my face.
It really goes to show, that if the employees have great leaders, the business and the employees are successful! Especially when they are so knowledgeable and stand behind their products and services.
I distinctly remember hosting this past Christmas Day at my home. I was going to make a Roast Beef. I spoke with a staff member who assisted me with a "Top Round" cut of meat. He instructed me step by step and made Christmas Day so magical! It was the most-fresh cut of meat and so tender. I will never buy corporate again when it comes to my main-dish courses!!
And even my sides! They have a vast area of pre-made, just-heat up food for the career families who have little time to cook during the week. And let's talk cold-cuts!! By far the best quality in town! They last must longer in my fridge!!
So, if you are looking for a new place to have lunch, grab cold-cuts for boat days, or host a family gathering or barbeque, look no further! The German Butcher is the place to be! No wonder they have been in business so long. Make sure to check out this gem of Forked River! I promise, you will fall in love with this place the way I did!!

My favorite style of hot dog is the German style pork/beef or pork/beef/veal mix. Especially if it's made at a butcher/pork store. The dog here is one of the best, along with other favorites like Pulaski, Kocher's (now labeled Leidy's), Swiss Pork Store, and Union Pork Store.
What sets the German Butcher apart from the others is that you can get their hot dogs and other offerings to eat there. Nothing like having something made on location and served fresh. Today was the first time ordering their hot dog to eat here.
All I can say is Wow! You can't beat having a quality hot dog that was made hours to a few days ago and served on premise. Nothing fresher.
The dogs sold to go come in a few different sizes and casings. I got a few natural casing to bring home along with their bratwurst. But the one served here is the one pictured. A quarter pound at least and maybe more. Prepared on a griddle. Comes with chips or fries and a pickle.
The dog itself was skinless but had a thin outer layer that was like a casing. It was served on a fresh bun baked right there at their bakery. Perfect for this dog. Topped with spicy mustard. The frank itself was hot, tender, juicy, and flavorful. Top...
ย ย ย Read moreIt's alright. But I don't really see what the draw is. I can't account for every service the Butcher offers, but what I can say is that their sub sandwiches don't hold a candle to some other local area offerings. I don't know if the pandemic had something to do with it, but I personally feel the quality has really gone down. The Italian Subs we ordered were literally tasteless (I'm not sure how onions on a sub could possibly be tasteless, unless they were cut three days ago), dry, and lacking in the accoutrements we asked for - particularly the bacon I paid for, but didn't get. As for meats, I've purchased several different cuts of beef. I paid top dollar expecting top quality, but really, I've done better at CostCo. I personally would still recommend the Butcher - give them a try. I just don't think the price point / value / quality ratio is anywhere near where...
