Gambino's Bakery — Restaurant in Lafayette

Ordered the 2 king Cakes package. Bought Cream Cheese and Praline. Cake cost was about 50 bucks and shipped was 35 dollars more. They send the icing and sprinkles separate and you have to frost and decorate it yourself. They mentioned if you wanted to eat it warm to microwave it for 15 seconds. I thought why would I want to eat it warm as I never heated them when I ordered them from Manny Randazo’s . Upon cutting it and tasting the first bite I found it very dry and rather tasteless. I then microwaved my piece for 15 seconds (as per their said instructions) and it was much better, but still nothing to write home about. You definitely need to eat this cake from this particular bakery warm otherwise it tastes like eating cold cardboard. I was SO VERY DISAPPOINTED In this bakery’s king cake! I normally order our king cake from Manny Randazio’s and I was too late when ordering and all his king cakes were sold out unfortunately. Buy from Manny and order the “Royal” king cake which is made with the cream cheese along with 3 sections of different fillings which are Lemon, apple and I believe Strawberry. Pastries, delicious! Donna, stares darts! We went into Gambinos today a little after 3. Donna (had her name on shirt) asked us if she could help us. I explained that we were just looking right now because my son was meeting us at the jewelry store next door and we wanted to come back after. Donna says .. “Well,we close at 3:58!” We decided to wait for my son to arrive and get pastry first before they closed. I wanted him to pick out what he wanted. She asked again and I told her we’re waiting for him and that we’ll be out of there by 3:58. She kept staring us down as if we were violating “her” time and mumbling to co-worker. There were 2 other customers in there and we weren’t close to 3:58! Just a word to Donna- your staring us down was pointless. I feel like you are old enough to know this and to be a role model of good customer service for the 2 other young ladies. Obviously, you didn’t have that insight. I put in an order well before Fat Tuesday for an out of state delivery and requested that my three cakes be shipped on the Monday before Mardis Gras. I received an email confirming my order and that was the last communication from Gambians. On Monday I sent them an email inquiring about my cakes and only received an automated reply that they would respond in the order that it was received. I waited two days without an answer before calling Gambinos. The lady was curt and cold but did confirm that I would be reimbursed before hanging up on me. Funny how I had to apologize to my children’s schools and my church that while I committed to introducing these cakes to my new community that I was not able to fulfill my obligations and I wasn’t even able to get an apology from gambinos for dropping the ball and not fulfilling my order.
