Idk why I waited 40 years to go eat at this place. I’ve been wanting to go have a Burger. I don’t know what took me so long but today was the day with my son and I totally enjoyed the food & atmosphere. The staff very friendly, hospitable and fun to joke with. There are two top and four top tables inside. It is a very clean Restaurant with the coolers for drinks and chips Available self serve, and you place your order at the front counter. The owner said his family has owned this establishment since the 1940s! There are places to sit outside. Blue collar and white collar, lunch crowd. They have the normal lunch menu with burgers, fully dressed “loaded” with handmade ground meat patties cooked on a grill, that are thick, hot and tasty. The fresh dressings are raw onions, lettuce, tomato, bacon etc. . They have a daily plate lunch and the staff was busy in the kitchen rolling out plate lunches fast. It smelled wonderful and today was the Hamburger-steak plate lunch that I saw a few people eating and that looked really good. Every day is a different plate lunch available. The burger is mouthwateringly delicious. Today was the first time I tried Gary’s after passing the location for years. You walk in and it feels like going to Grandpa’s. Casual, comfortable and so welcoming! The owner, Troy, and his staff were all the nicest hosts. They even gave us a free homemade chocolate chip cookie as first timers. Definitely go try the burger! This is a true gem of Lafayette dining! Great old fashioned plate lunches with the most personalized service I've ever seen. Mr Troy remembers almost everyone's names after their first visit, so on your second time there you feel like family, with a by name greeting as you walk through the door!
