Alright, I will admit that I was a little hesitant going into what looked like the gas station my father had when I was a kid. OMG so worth it! The ambiance is genuine. The original steel rafters and windows set the mood. The outside eating under the outside awning where the old pumps used to stand is delightful! The service is definitely a 10! My waitress 'Erica' was amazing! The cocktails are inventive and full of "I want to try that!" Moments. But then, so is the menu! And not to worry if you are are beer or wine person, they have you covered! I ordered the Cote de Brouilly Les Grande Mises (Gamay) from France.. extraordinary! I decided to order an appetizer the veggie spring rolls, as an appetizer to just taste and take the remainder home. I ate the entire appetizer by myself! So good! For dinner I ordered the Bibimbap, it was served in a bowl and was absolutely delicious! I decided that I have ¾ of a glass of wine left, and time on my meter so I ordered the Cream Brulee! Needless to say, it was absolutely amazing! The lunch crowd filtered in after my arrival and everyone's order looked spectacular! This place is so worth the stop. All different ages, and races, and from casual to well dressed, everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, this, and most definitely the food! This place is truly an extraordinary find. Come, enjoy yourself, give yourself time to truly appreciate the art of extraordinary food, food service, and food preparation! I so promise that I will be back! So many things on the menu that I need to try! And if you get Erica as your server, don't be shy, ask questions, this amazing lady...
Read moreGreat outdoor seating with a nice staff. We caught brunch on my first trip here. I had the breakfast bowl which had everything you could think of for breakfast all in one bowl. Cheesy grits, crispy potatoes, breakfast sausage, bacon, Pico de gallo, and a sunny side up egg with a dash of their dragon sauce. The sauce added a mild heat to the dish. It was good and a nice idea. It looked amazing, but sometimes when a chef wants to make something look fancy they don’t think how the customer might eat it. The sausage patty is cut in half and the bacon was in strips. Normally not a problem but in this massive bowl situation it’s a great presentation but hard to eat. It was difficult to cut them into pieces among all of the other foods. I would’ve loved them chopped so I could mix them in with everything to get a little in each bite. I suppose I could’ve removed the strips and eat them but it doesn’t add to the flavor that way. So I had to remove them and tear them into pieces, a bit messy. Others were looking but I don’t have any shame lol. The sausage was a lot harder to deal with trying to cut them to pieces in the bowl with a spoon. Great idea just not practical. This was also the first brunch I’ve gone to without some type of eggs Benedict. We noticed the snowball and were excited about the unique black berry syrup/flavoring. However it didn’t have much of it, just enough to cover the ice so the flavor was weak and watered down. It had very little sweetness for what is supposed to be a sugary treat. I loved the regular menu offerings and would like to go back for another try. I’ll update...
Read moreMy party was driving around and looking for a place to have a nice brunch experience when we came across Spoonbill Watering Hole and Restaurant. The food quality, great prices, relaxing ambiance, great service, and available indoor/outdoor seating at peak brunch time were very refreshing for a gorgeous day like the day we visited.
Spoonbill is located in the old Filling Station in Downtown Lafayette, which is directly across the street from Rock'n'Bowl. We found free Sunday parking on the street nearby and had a pleasant walk to the restaurant. The general vibe and the music being played was fun (I distinctly remember Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show being played).
I started with the Blueberry Hill mocktail, which was just OK. Those familiar with the Crunchwrap Supreme from Taco Bell will appreciate the Brunchwrap Supreme, which is what I chose (sans chorizo because I don't eat sausage). Boy, am I glad I did. It was absolutely delicious, and the hash brown sticks in the Brunchwrap weren't greasy at all. My side of cheese grits were definitely in need of salt and black pepper, but it was tasty after being doctored up. When the check came, we were thrilled that it came to be less than $15 per person before tip. Considering today's insane prices and the fact that this business is located downtown, I find that to be impressive.
This was a experience worth bragging about and I can't wait to go back to try their burger and other...
