I love this place. Usually. Today I came in to do about 30 minutes of work on my laptop. I wasnāt sure what I wanted, and the last time I was there one of the staff made me an amazing tea drink and it was on my mind. I have no idea what it was, or I would have just asked for it specifically
I told the gal behind the counter that I wasnāt sure what I wanted, and asked what kind of tea drinks did they have. She was obviously annoyed and reached over grabbed the little plastic holder that had a list of the teas (tea bags) on it, and with attitude placed it in front of me.. like she thought I was an idiot for asking.
I found myself apologizing for not knowing in advance what I wanted and .... wait! Back up! Why was I alpogetic toward her rude and annoyed behavior. I take it all back!
I purposefully chose to go to there, I did have a drink in mind, and it was she who passive/aggressively made my experience less than pleasant. She didnāt offer ideas, or suggest anything.. even the bearded guy next to her did nothing to help.
Iām not typically indecisive, but today I was and thanks for not helping at all, nada. (And I was the only one at the counter, so donāt try to pin it on me that I was holding up the line.)
So, I just want to say to the grumpy and rude gal with the bird tats on her forearms and knitted winter hat... perhaps itās time to find a different job. This is not the first time youāve worn your annoyance and disdain for customers on your sleeves.
Iāve been fortunate to not have had you until...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEast Simpson Coffee Company has the charm of a well-furnished home. One of the owners is a superb craftsman, having made many improvements to the interior and exterior space. The patio gate made from a bicycle is worth the stop in itself, and that's just the beginning. They have plenty of space, and I believe one could reserve the back room for a reception, for example. They have many events in the evening that are worth investigating (although I've been only to some of their summer concerts on the patio, which are great).
Coffee (drip): * Just ok. Part of this rating reflects my preference for dark roasts and strongly brewed coffee.
Ambience: * Whether you are going to study or to socialize, you can usually find a seat that accommodates your need. Sometimes it's a little noisy with children, but that's the kind of noise that is entertaining and encouraging, bringing some life into the place.
Internet connection: ** Not great. My laptop cannot decide whether to use their Wi-Fi or the Wi-Fi that slips in from the laundry mat next door. The staff never complain when asked to reboot the router.
Miscellany (location, staff, food): * Probably because of the ambience, the presence of one of the owners who is often on site, and the location, this is a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreĀ Ā Ā Read moreI have not been back here in a few months and thought I'd give it another try. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back. I ordered the GF almond butter toast and was sorely disappointed. Not only was the bread not toasted (warmed at best), for what I paid, the almond butter wasn't even put on the toast! By the time I got my cappuccino (20 minutes wait), the toast was cold. The cappuccino tasted pretty good which is one I've given two stars. However, I waited long after 5 people who arrived after me got theirs including some friends of the staff who were given there's when they walked up. For the time and money spent, it was not worth it. The seating and wait area is not convenient as you are constantly in the way of pickup orders and the counter for lids and toppings. You...
