2/16/22 So for my first time here i found it a bit hit or miss. I thought the chips with a spicy cheese sauce was great and different since most places serve salsa. They only have one size margarita and honestly I wish it was bigger, I can’t stand the type of glasses they use for them. I had the Barbacoa and a pork street taco, both were terrific I liked them and look forward to having them again. But the gorditas on the other hand just wasn’t good for me. They were a corn bready shell fried with hard crispy bits in places and soft cornbread areas that were a bit dry. I barely could taste the proteins in them because the shell was just so much. On the last one I opened the shell and just ate the inside. Authentic or not I just didn’t like it. I also had the fried plantains. I liked the unique direction with the condensed milk topping but I could hardly tell if the plantains were fried. They certainly were hot. I just wasn’t a fan of it and have enjoyed fried plantains a few times before elsewhere. I also had the Horchata drink, it was good, maybe heavy on the cinnamon. I enjoyed one elsewhere and it was a milder drink. I would like to try more on the menu because I think the potential is there. There has to be more to like since I loved the tacos. The service was good, generally a clean restaurant. Big place with a big bar. I’ll...
Read moreLa Papa Loca is definitely a restaurant that was much needed in Lafayette. Through the years this city has diversified itself and now has a Latin population that is a reflection of the many cultural backgrounds that now comprise this city. I want to say that this is a great place to Eat and to truly taste some dishes that come from Honduras. They are excellently prepared and reflect a great sense of authenticity coupled with the pride that they are recreating in this city. Embrace this change for in this experience one can now truly taste cuisine that has no boundaries with origins from Honduras with great love and pride for all to enjoy in Lafayette. This was my very first time eating there and the food was marvelous. I recommend this place and truly believe that one will be amazed by anything on the menu. I plan to return. I tried the beef tacos and a flank steak yellow rice combination that was very well done. I will try the poultry and seafood selections on my return. I am very happy that we have a new restaurant with the beginnings of the diversity the years have added to our history in doing so it is a much welcome addition to this wonderful city named...
Read moreThis place is incredible. Everything tastes extremely fresh and is clearly made with care. The service is always really good as well. I highly recommend the namesake of the restaurant, the Papa Loca. It's a baked potato with cheese and pastor pork. You can't really go wrong with that. I haven't even had a chance to try all of the different meat options, but every single one that I've tried has been fantastic.
Do not go to this place expecting a normal Tex-Mex restaurant, like there are about a billion of them here in Lafayette. This place is Honduran influenced, and has incredibly unique food to the area. But, I would bet any amount of money that you will find something for anyone on this menu.
Sidenote: save your appetite. All of the portions are really big. They don't bring out chips and salsa in the beginning of the meal, but they do bring out chips and this really good cream sauce. Stick to that and save your appetite for the entrees. I can't wait to go back. I've gone twice...
