A true gem for ice cream aficionados, Handel's Homemade Ice Cream consistently earns its 5-star reputation with every scoop. This isn't just another ice cream shop; it's an institution of frozen delight. Don't be surprised to find a line when you arrive; it's simply a testament to the incredible quality waiting for you, and trust me, it is always worth the wait. The ice cream itself is the star of the show. It's exceptionally rich, dense, and creamy, with a homemade taste that sets it apart from any other chain. While they offer a dizzying array of flavors, we have its tried-and-true favorites that we regularly grab by the pint to enjoy at home. My personal go-to is their Rocky Road. It’s a perfect symphony of deep, decadent chocolate ice cream, fluffy marshmallows, and the perfect crunch of fresh nuts. My wife is a huge fan of their Mint Chocolate Chip, which boasts a refreshing, authentic mint flavor, not the artificial, overly green kind and is packed with generous chocolate flakes in every bite. Handel's focuses on what matters: phenomenal ice cream made fresh. Whether you're trying a new flavor or sticking with a classic, the quality is unwavering. For anyone who truly appreciates premium, flavorful ice cream, Handel's is an absolute must-visit. It has become our definitive spot, and we happily recommend it to anyone seeking the best cone or...
Read moreLike other intelligent reviewers stated, there's nothing special about Handel's ice cream (except maybe perhaps some interesting flavors such as pineapple cake). They're located in a great shopping mall with plenty of parking and a Smart & Final Extra! nearby, but Handel's ice cream prices are a bit too high and you can taste the apparently heavy artificial ingredients that leave a weird taste in your mouth (this is why Haagen-Dazs is still and will forever be the best ice cream in the world due to their evidently all natural ingredients). So Handel's ice cream's claims that they're the #1 ice cream in the world are apparently subjective and hyperbolic. Two other things that are stains on Handel's ice cream: 1. There are no pictures of their ice cream (except 1 giant one) and all their ice cream is hidden in nontransparent freezers in the middle of the store. 2. They have 2 cashier stations but they don't have signs indicating which station to order from (we came in to the cashier station on the left and the apparent shift supervisor with blond hair ignored us and went to the other cashier station where customers who came into the store after us were served before us). Disrespectful. But it doesn't matter to us, because this was our first and last visit to Handel's ice cream. Thank you for making it easy for us to forget about...
Read moreNot impressed. They are helping move along and supporting the obesity and diabetes epidemic. A small ice cream is 2 1/2 scoops... That's crazy... And sad. That is way too much ice cream for kids (and adults)... So much sugar and fat. And they won't allow you to get 2 flavors which is stupid. Get a kid or mini size that's 1 or 1.5 scoops. Charge just a little less $3.5 or 4. You'd sell a lot and often 2, a kid and parents as they probably often share a small ($7 or 8 is more than $5.50). And also not have parents (who are concerned about their kids health) take away the ice cream when it's half done and throw it away, which is also just a waste of food. Sadly we probably won't be back...
Thanks for the response, and yeah most people are ok with the larger portions because most people approx 2/3 of Americans are either overweight or obese. And it's hard to split a small when you only allow 1 flavor, especially if one wants dairy free or another flavor, which is nice you have a flavor, and all pass on the artificially sweetened sugar-free ones, unless you use a natural sweetener...
