Smallcakes: Cupcakery & Creamery — Restaurant in Lake Havasu City

My best friend and I wanted to get a cake for her boyfriend for his birthday and we didn’t have time to make it, so we went to different bakeries in town, and then after looking at Small Cakes' website my best friend decided to go here to order the cake…. She went on Sept 18th with a photo of an inspiration for the cake we wanted. The gal at the counter, said that she had to ask the baking artist, and the artist confirmed that they were able to make the cake close to our photo inspiration. So my friend paid for the cake and we were set to pick it up on September 22nd at 2 pm….

On Sept 22nd when I went in to pick up the cake the gal walked me over and presented me with a cake that looked NOTHING like the photo inspiration and proceeded to tell me that they did not get the proper art supplies to make the cake….. we were caught completely off guard by this because nobody had called to tell us that the cake couldn’t be designed how we asked… the gal behind the counter refunded us for the lack of art..

I took the cake home and I noticed it was missing frosting on the sides… we both decided it was best to return to small cakes and when we arrived there the situation really took a turn…

I believe this lady was the owner I did not get her name. But, she saw us unloading the cake out of my car and right away asked us, “well what’s going on?”

So we proceeded to go inside Smallcakes and my friend expressed to her that the cake looked nothing like the photos and how it was falling apart…. The owner dared to ask us why we did not go to Albertsons and told us that they were surprised that Albertsons could not make this cake for us. Then, started going on a rant about how it was illegal for her to copyright a cake design….. she went on an unnecessary rant….. my friend said that she was non-confrontational and just wanted somebody to call us and have better communication and while she said that the owner dared to laugh in her face and say “I can tell you’re not confrontational you won’t even look me in the eyes”…. I could not believe that she did this to my friend. We finally got a refund for the cake and we just left….. after all this mess we cut the cake open to discover it wasn’t even prepared the way she ordered it…

Our youngest is allergic to eggs, soy and almonds. I called them to see if there was any chance they had anything free of those ingredients so we could bring our kiddos in for a cupcake, she said they do have a vegan cupcake that is egg free but sometimes uses Almond or Soy milk, she checked with the owner and the owner offered to make a whole fresh batch with oatmilk so that we could buy just 1 cupcake for our daughter, even let us pick the cake flavor and icing flavor. She said give her an hour and then come on in. Amazing customer service! 👏🏼 Food allergies are scary and some restaurants seem annoyed when we ask what the ingredients are or they are unsure and unable to tell us exact ingredients, this was such a pleasant experience and all of our cupcakes were delicious! This review is long overdue for which I apologize. Last August I called Kim from California to order cupcakes for my daughter's birthday and she lives in Lake Havasu. Disappointed I could not be there in person, Kim and her associate went above & beyond to make her birthday extra special. Not only did they deliver the delicious cupcakes to her work, they also went out of their way to meet my request by buying balloons & delivering them as well! The photos of the cupcakes were beautiful with 3 different flavors & classy decorations. My daughter & her co-workers raved how yummy they were! Although this is belated, I have never forgotten how gracious & helpful Kim was over the phone & how she & her associate surprised my daughter with amazing cupcakes & balloons! Kudos Kim & much appreciation for over the top...
