The Caesar salad is great, with large, thick shavings of parmesan, and tasty Caesar dressing. The pizza was decent too, but I'm not picky when it comes to pizza. I had the stockyard, and I love a meaty pizza. No, the reason for the 1 star review is not for the food at all. It's for good old fashioned SERVICE, and possibly a little bit of deceptive business practice thrown in for good measure.
I was running a couple errands and drove past the restaurant on Addison and Damen, which reminded me that I wanted to try it again, and that I was hungry, so I pulled up their website, clicked on 'menu', which downloaded the menu onto my phone and automatically opened it, and I checked it out.
I thought the price was reasonable, and settled on a Caesar salad, with extra dressing on the side, and a thin crust stockyard. I called in to order it, and the lady that took it was polite and helpful. At the end when she gave my total, it was significantly higher than expected, and it asked her how much the extra Caesar dressing cost with a chuckle. Then did the math again and realized that it wasn't even close. I told her we could look at it when I got there to pick it up.
15 minutes later, I go in and am greeted by a male, whom I mentioned the price discrepancy to. He confirmed that what comes up on their computer is higher than what their online menu says. He says, "It must be old pricing" I tell him that I got it from their website, LIVE, and did it again to show him. He calls the boss, Brian, and is told to tell me- "That's from a 5 year old pdf, and on the back it says that it's subject to change." And then tells me that they won't honor the price. I asked, "So are you not honoring this price from your website?" slightly incredulously. He said no.
Wait, what?? You aren't honoring the price that you have- LIVE on your website, (not on printed menus, which cost a lot of money to reprint), but online, digital menus, the easiest thing to change in the world, and claim that it's been up there for 5 years? I find it hard to believe that the price on the PDF is from 5 years ago, but I could be completely wrong, and that's beside the point.
It wasn't from the pizza, but I left the place with a very bad taste in my mouth tonight.
I can only surmise that Bartoli's is being either: intentionally deceptive with their business practices, or, extremely lazy and making poor decisions on the fly.
Either way, it's one neighborhood business that I won't be...
Read moreWhat is there to do in Chicago you may ask? Well, if you’re craving pizza, you can stop by Bartoli’s Pizzeria.
I went inside with my girlfriend and it was crowded, but it was Saturday, so that was kind of expected. We sat down at a little two-person table towards the corner. They don’t have a server wait on your table here, so they have you go to the counter to place your order once you’re ready.
They do the Party Cut, Thin Crust pizza here, which is a Chicago must-try I’d say! I, of course, went with the Bartoli’s Chicago Classic pizza. It’s named after the place, so it had to be pretty important. It had Italian sausage, mushroom, onion, and green pepper on it. I got a Fountain Drink. It was self-serve, so refills were free. We also got a Nonna Bartoli’s Famous Meatball Sandwich. It had two meatballs on French bread topped with their homemade marinara. It was hard not to get dessert, so I got each of us a Cannoli.
I tried the Coca-Cola from the fountain and it was pretty good. I quickly switched to Diet Coke, as I’m a big diet soda buff. Their Diet Coke was smooth and tasty. The pizza took about 20 minutes, so that wasn’t bad. I would’ve been worried if it came out any quicker. It arrived to our table hot and fresh. I was impatient, so I burnt my body at first eating it. Oh well, it was worth the pain, because the pizza was great! I loved how I could taste the char on the crust. The Meatball Sammich was great as well! The marinara really made the whole thing for me. Try it out and you’ll see what I mean. We took the Cannolis for later. They were both good, but oddly the cream in the second one tasted better.
The service was friendly and efficient. They got a minor part of our order wrong, but fixed the issue without hesitation. They even cleaned up our table after we finished.
Overall, this pizza place was a great stop and you should add it to your bucket list to try out Chicago’s Party Cut Thin Crust pizza. I would definitely order from them again if I’m ever in the area.

Read moreI ordered for pick up, arrived early and waited so the pizza was fresh when ready. We decided on this place for a change… and the deep dish pizza after seeing the reviews. Also ordered the cheese bites and mozzarella sticks as a general go to favorite of my girlfriend and myself. This was a special night and after trying the “worse than frozen” dried out cheese sticks, the cheese bites we hoped for something like Lou’s pizza. Which didn’t stand a chance with no flavor and honestly I would pick up White Castle cheese sticks instead. We ended the appetizers which we’ve never done and thought maybe the pizza is “where it’s at!”… Nope. It was not good. Bland and the cheese was cold. The crust was crunchy. I can give it that. And the marinara sauce was decent. But for the entire experience at that price. Never again. Save your money. Don’t trust the over rated reviews. They must not know pizza or Chicago. Life long resident for over 39 years and I should have known why I’ve never tried this place before. Wish...
