I visited some friends in Chicago. They took me to their local bar. While sitting at the bar our bartender was suppose to be Bow(forgive me if I spelled it wrong). We spend there about 3 hours and he maybe checked on us twice. Every time we had to call him over even tho the bar was not that busy. I cannot say that his demeanor was friendly. He was little bit rude and short with us. For personal health reasons I ordered water. And both times he asked our group what they want to drink he skipped me. I guess he didn't know I was buying tonight. Me personally won't come back to this establishment next time I visit. Waited about 45 minutes for a receipt. Left him 0.01$ tip. That is Las Vegas secret greeting for poor customer service. I live in LV and even tho they are 10 times busier over there at least you get some service. To make things worse Edgar guy(seems like a decent fellow and a good friend) he tried to explain why Bow did what he did but he made a mistake of telling him so Bow came over to "apologize". I don't know if it counts as an apology if you are even more rude while "apologizing"?!? When I asked to speak with management the response was that nobody is there. All of this happens around midnight between 18th/19th May 2018. If he only offered a pitcher of water all of this would be a different story. It's the...
Read moreOur favorite bar! Even though we no longer live in the neighborhood, we still come back for the cozy atmosphere, well curated selection on tap, the best nachos, and fantastic servers.
You feel enveloped by warmth as you walk in. The fireplace in the front room and the one in the beer garden (wish it was on all the time), along with lights strung over the ceiling and walls and around the windows facing Roscoe street, create a warm bubble away from everyday worries. There are large TVs in both rooms with various games going at any given time.
The beer selection is solid with local favorites and seasonal offerings, but also something new and interesting on tap no matter when you stop by. I love that they carry Phase Three Brewing with their small batch creations as I’ve had the best fruity sours and nectars from them.
The nachos come with everything on them including guacamole and sour cream, and are topped with a generous portion of tender short rib beef from Slagel Farms.
What makes this place so special to us is the staff, especially Mary and Dominic, who always welcome us with a smile, take a minute to chat with us, are knowledgeable about current drinks on tap, and never once impatient with my decision making process (often involves some tasting ;)
The Village Tap is our...
Read moreI live in the neighborhood and it has a great beer selection but it takes so long for food and drinks sometimes. Today, I brought/recommended it over Diversey House to friends. The waitress told us it would take 30-45 mins for food. Fine, thanks for the heads up. It took over an hour and 20 mins for a burger, wings, salad, and steak salad. One of my friends asked to get food to go for his wife and they said they don’t do that. As it was my friend had to get two boxes and eat his food on the car ride home because we were waiting for nearly 2 hours. If you can’t serve food in a reasonable amount of time, please rethink your menu, staffing, or whatever operational things you need to do to have a decent customer experience. The fries tasted like they had been fried in fish oil. The cubs vs white sox were also on and they were showing softball. If the food is going to take 1.5 hours, maybe give the customers a free round or an app? I don’t blame the servers. Operationally, there’s a big miss here. Hope it...
