I usually don’t write reviews or speak negatively about restaurants—especially since I work in the industry myself—but unfortunately, Firefly Burger did not meet expectations.
We came as a family of six from Kansas, excited to try the burgers. Right away, we were seated at high tables with tall chairs, which were uncomfortable and not suitable for kids.
Customer service was disappointing from the start. When I placed my order, I initially asked for a double burger for myself and single burgers for my husband and kids. I then changed my mind and asked for a single burger instead. The server responded with a condescending question: “Do you understand the difference between a single and a double burger?”—which felt unnecessary and disrespectful.
Another frustrating moment was when we ordered water and fries, assuming fries came with the burger. The server never mentioned otherwise. At the end, when we received the bill, we were surprised to find extra charges. To make things worse, the server referred to me as “Aunty”—I’m in my mid-30s, and he seemed to be in the same age range. When I politely corrected him, he responded aggressively, saying, “So what do you want me to call you then?” Completely unprofessional.
Service: 0/10 Food: 2/10
The fries were below average. The Firefly burger was smothered in sauce, seemingly to cover up a lack of flavor. The patty was under-seasoned, clearly pre-made, and smaller than the bun. The Smokey Burger had no smoky flavor at all—it had beef bacon, some BBQ sauce (not listed on the menu), and a slice of smoked Gouda that wasn’t even melted. Melting the cheese is basic burger prep.
The food was overpriced for what we got. There was also no soap in the restroom—completely unacceptable for a restaurant.
Worst of all, two of my kids ended up with upset stomachs afterward, which ruined part of...
Read moreWe came to Firefly Burger as four families visiting Chicago, based on a friend’s recommendation. The place was already very small, and we couldn’t sit inside at first, so we ordered and waited outside. When some tables became available, our wives and kids went inside to sit. Then an employee came and told us we had to pay a $55 service fee just to sit there. We refused, and they told us we couldn’t sit inside unless we paid, so we took our orders and left.
The staff were very rude and unfriendly, and it was clear they didn’t want to serve us. Also, the burgers were too spicy, even the regular ones, so the kids couldn’t eat them. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. I do not recommend this place to anyone.
In response to their reply claiming that what we said was “completely false”:
This review was made with complete honesty. We were four friends sitting at the same table, and one of your staff members came over, showed $55 on the POS machine, and said, “This is the service fee we have to charge if you want to sit because you’re a group of 16.” My friends, our wives, and our children had to leave because of this.
Thankfully, my mind and memory are perfectly clear. Instead of accusing customers of lying, first fix how you run your business and train your staff especially the person who dealt with us, who was extremely rude. Before questioning whether someone’s review is urgent or honest, make sure your team is treating people with respect. Please, do it without lying or denying what...
