**Update 7/27 &7/28: This will be my last update as I do not want to invest any more energy into this matter. Juan (owner) is extremely upset about this review to the point that he spent several hours “calling me out” and making up lies (I never screamed at him nor did people gasp in horror) on his Instagram stories and allowing his followers to do the same. I will not be bullied into taking this review down as this was my experience. We drove from the suburbs to the city to support a fellow Venezuelan. Unfortunately, our experience was not the best. I suggested a changing table because my child had a bowel movement as we were looking at the menu and I had to go to my car on a 100F degree day to change her. I was considerate of his business and fellow costumers. He took my suggestion of the changing table as a personal attack instead of a suggestion/constructive criticism.
Meh! We had high expectations but were disappointed. They open on Wednesday 7/22 and by today (Sunday 7/26) most of the menu was sold out. It seems that they were not prepared for grand opening. Overall, the place it’s cutesy. Very Instagram friendly but most of the food we had was nothing to write home about. The chicken empanadas were good so we will recommend it. Also, we heard the tequeños are amazing but they were sold out. In regards to desserts we purchased a cookie and a tres leches slice. Extremely sweet! We didn’t care for it. Lastly, if you have a small child 👶🏽 don’t expect to find a changing table in the bathroom. Per the owner it wasn’t necessary due to their capacity and bathroom size but we were just a Bolivar & Lincoln the day before and their bathroom is way smaller and still had a changing table. So not very...
Read moreFirst I must say I loved the fact the owner comes out to ask you how is your food. As promised I will edit (Fe de erratas) my review since as we say in spanish "No hay quinto malo" at last I could make it inside and let me tell you; was it worthy? Yeeeees, I had a Chicken Sensation Baguette as suggested by Felipe (who by the way is super friendly and his suggestions were delectable) and he prepares one of the best coffes I have had in Chicago you may think just the coffe is worth to come back, but you will want to try the Tequeños, yes, weird name I know, but the cheese sticks wrap in a very thin dough from this place are amazing, got the brownie, a very yummy one, had to share it since it was big, I wanted to try the Chocolate Marquesa which is a cream and cookies venezuelan dessert (you would think a banana puding but chocolate and no bananas if need to explains it better) sadly they had run out ( I heard is their best seller) so I will go back for one of those as my dessert after I had enjoyed the Parrilla which Felipe was so kind to recomend as a dish for two. Got the hot dogs to bring home for my roommate and were loved as well, I have always though food just made is always good (well, most of the time) but is when it gets cold that you may really know if what you had was blah or OML! and that chicken sandwich cold was still worthy of all the times I went to find it was closed or pack, now I understand why...
Read moreI will just start by saying I really love this place! I always come here and the food is amazing. Today was the first interaction I had with the owner and I will say I’m kinda sad! I ordered a latte and was surprised at the price being $6 for what had to be just a few oz of coffee. :( I took it home because I assumed the best and that the coffee was quality and maybe extra strong and that’s why the amount was so tiny. They just recently started serving Julius Meinl coffee which has the reputation of being amazing!!!It just tasted very burnt and weak. I spoke with the owner and he claimed there has never been any complaints about the coffee before and hung up on me. It sounded like he was having a bad day or something so I felt bad. He seems to like to respond to critical reviews so I will just say I am a kind person who patronizes this restaurant frequently and have no ill will, but I really feel the need to speak out against what felt like a scam. Considering the other reviews mentioning the poor quality of coffee and highly defensive attitude of the owner, I suppose I would just recommend to anyone reading this to only come here for...
