The short version of this review: If you like authentic and delicious Indian food, you have to try this place, it is the best Indian I have had in the Denver Metro, and is on par with many of my favorite Indian spots from the Bay Area. Please try this place, it is amazing, you wont regret it.
Long version: So I have been in love with Indian food since I was about 10, but growing up in Denver in the 90s/00s the local of Indian food scene was pretty meh, dominated by the under flavored and generally watered down kind of Indian food that you think is good until you have the real deal. Then I went out to Berkeley for school and had my mind blown. Love or hate the Bay, or Cali in general, you cannot deny that the Indian food scene there is unparalleled in the US. NYC and LA may make some claims, and I'm sure the food there is also very good. The thing is, it doesn't really matter where the restaurant is, it just matters how good the recipes are, and how much skill the cooks have in making them. Fast forward 13 years, and I am back in Denver, totally spoiled, having gorged myself on delicious, flavorful, spicy, authentic Indian food for years. I tried Little India, which many hold up as a paragon of local Indian cuisine, and which I used to genuinely like, and it was very meh. Since then I have been trying lots of different places, and generally striking out, not finding that epic flavor explosion high that I had grown addicted to. At least, not until I tried Curry Kitchen.
Let me be frank, Curry Kitchen is a random strip mall restaurant, around the corner from Safeway, over in the little slice of Lakewood that I call home. I was not expecting much, but when I walked in I was instantly transported back to my favorite Bay Area curry houses. The aroma of authentic Indian food hit me like a truck, and I started to get excited. At this point it is worth noting that my family experienced a significant tragedy between when I placed the order and when I picked it up. Our dog had sustained a serious injury and was going to need surgery, we were going to have to take him in to the emergency vet in less than an hour. Needless to say, this type of event suppresses the appetite, with the stress and anxiety of the situation casting a grey pall over everything. We decided that we should eat now even though we didn't feel like it because we weren't sure how long it would take with the vet. When we started opening the containers of food we were instantly hungry again, it smelled amazing, and the taste was even better. Every dish in the Vegetarian Thali for 2 that we ordered was fantastic. Not just good, but call your neighbors over to try it good, shout it from the rooftops good, Bay Area good.
We had the Sweet Potato Masala, which is sublime, and a wonderful take on a veggie Masala dish. I bet the Chicken Tikka Masala is also bomber. Just the right blend of sweet, sour, spice, and cream. Then there is the Mixed Veggie Korma, also fantastic, with generous and fresh vegetables in a fragrant, sweet, and well seasoned sauce. Then, the biggest surprise of all, the Saag Paneer, which is possibly the best I have ever had. The paneer was perfectly cooked, and rich with creamy flavor, and the Saag was unreal. I am not sure how else to describe it, but everything was perfect, the texture, the freshness, the spices, it worked together incredibly well. My 3 year old son ate most of it, he really really liked it, lol. Then there was the Daal, normally a throwaway filler dish in a Thali like this, but it was also superb. Sooo many restaurants make bland, lifeless Daal that has no freshness or flavor to it. Here, they do it right, the Daal is potent, flavorful, and full of fresh and subtle flavors that make it a great complement to the creamier curries. The Naan, pakora, samosa, and kheer are also all delicious, but I am running out of adjectives and space.
If you read this far, thank you for indulging my need to rant about how good this restaurant is, GO EAT AT CURRY...
Read moreHigh quality and authentic Northern Indian cuisine, with a small but nice selection of Southern dishes. Everything tastes as though it was made from scratch immediately before heading on it's way to your taste buds. Certainly among the best restaurants in Colorado.
The Chicken Pakora is absolutely insane and is superior to any fried chicken tender. If you want chicken tenders you need to come here immediately and order the Chicken Pakora. It is on the drier and crispier side, and the chickpea batter and seasoning is delicate and savory with a light sweetness. This is my newest favorite food.
The Saag is a little less creamy than I'm used to which provides me the illusion of it actually being healthy. I typically enjoy saag as a side dish without the paneer.
The mango lassi has more mango to yogurt than most, and has a pleasant light sweetness.
The flatbreads are on the chewier side and excellently accompany the rest of the menu. I have tried the Naan and Paratha which are very mild in flavor, but when used as intended they serve as a wonderful vessel for the curries.
Unlike many other Indian Restaurants, when you ask for spicy they give you spicy. The mild is mild, and the spicy is spicy. If you can't handle some discomfort from spicy food, you should absolutely get it mild. Otherwise I would recommend starting with "Hot" (online ordering). Of course the cream or butter based curries may benefit from the "Medium" heat due to the oleophilic nature of capsaicin (spiciness binds to fats and "mild" may...

The restaurant had a cozy and inviting atmosphere that made me feel right at home. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the waiters were especially good at making recommendations based on my taste preferences.
But let's talk about the food. The dishes were bursting with flavor and spices that made my taste buds dance with joy. I tried the chicken tikka masala, and it was simply divine. The sauce had the perfect balance of creamy tomato flavor and spicy kick that left me wanting more. The naan bread was freshly baked and had a soft texture that complemented the dish perfectly.
I also tried the lamb vindaloo, and it was one of the best I've ever had. The lamb was tender and cooked to perfection, and the sauce had a fiery kick that was not for the faint-hearted.
Overall, I had a fantastic dining experience at Curry Kitchen Indian restaurant. The food was top-notch, and the waiters were excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic Indian meal that's bursting with flavor. Don't miss out on this...
