I was passing through Denver on my way to Salt Lake City. I was excited to find a Germany eatery. Being from Switzerland originally, I am well acquainted with German food. Gaby is what I would describe as typical German, meaning she is very blunt, and to the point kind of a person. Not very personable at all (no interest in where I was from originally nor living now). I had to get used to that again. Haha. I really wanted the Schnitzel but was shocked to find it so expensive (especially for a run down place like that). I thought with a mushroom gravy and Spätzle, it would make it worth paying the $20. The Schnitzel did not disappoint. It was good. However, the Spätzle had not been salted while in the dough making stage, nor while boiling in water (which is the way to make it). It had absolutely no flavor. The mushroom gravy also was extremely bland. Usually a mushroom gravy gets deglazed with bouillon and not just water. I ended up needing to add so much salt to those two items just to make it eatable (still wasn’t great though). I was very disappointed overall since this meal cost me about twice as much as it would have cost me in SLC in the...
Read moreHave been very excited to try this place and was just met with an owner that clearly doesn’t want business. Both Google and their website stated they closed at 7:30. We arrived at 6:25 starving and ready to chow down on some schnitzel.
However, what we were met with was an owner who looked absolutely perplexed that we had just walked in. He quickly stated that they were closed. When I politely mentioned that their closing time is listed at 7:30, he said that they stop seating people at 6:45 and that if we had called, he would have told us that. I mentioned that it was only 6:27pm, and he just continued to seem annoyed by my inquiry and said they were closed without as much as an apology or any real explanation.
Had he been apologetic or explained that they closed up early for the night, I would have understood. Instead, he made it seem like it was OUR fault that we didn’t know that they’d be closed more than an hour prior to their listed closing time.
I’m incredibly disappointed and sad that they don’t seem to want business, as this place looks incredible. Guess we’ll have to find another spot to get our German fix. Any recommendations are...
Read moreNot like oma used to make. This place is odd, I couldn't figure it out. It was completely empty and yet I was asked if I made a reservation, and when I didn't it was as if I was now a burden. I was told I could still eat if I wanted but they prefer reservations. However, the couple who came in after me weren't given the same attitude for not making said reservation. So we ordered the rouladen, spatzle, and cabbage rolls. The rouladen looks as if they made a gravy out of water and mushrooms. ZERO flavor, no pickle in the meat, and as tough as an old boot. The cabbage rolls were equally as bland. The concept was the same but absolutely no seasoning what so ever. Staff was short and to the point, again as if my business was bothersome. I guess I didn't fit the standard customer profile to this establishment, sorry I forgot my man bun, doesn't mean I'm not a person deserving of some common dignity. I was more than polite and didn't show distaste in the lack luster food. All in all, don't waste your money, or bring your own seasonings in your wife's purse. And if your not a hipster be prepared to be treated like...
