Hippo Express Coffee — Restaurant in Lakewood

I follow this coffee stand on Instagram and love their posts so I have always wanted to visit as we remember seeing their sign earlier in the year and thought it would be worth visiting. We finally got the opportunity on Sunday morning as we wanted some caffeine and some treats for our fur babies.

The menu is concise and simple which is great as often times, too many options can be very overwhelming and hard to read. They have coffee, non-coffee drinks, energy drinks and even bubble tea! Additionally, for food they have banh mis, breakfast sandwiches, Blazing bagels, and other pastries.

The barista here was very friendly and professional, she made sure to check that she got our order right and made sure to give our fur babies some treats. I love that they have special treats rather than Milkbones as our fur babies devoured them quickly! Even our picky girl who isn't keen on new treats but she loved it so much! Our drinks were made to perfection too, not too sweet and with four shots definitely helped us stay awake. They also have a reward system where if you order 7 times, you get one free which I think is great as other places make it purchase 9, 10, or even more. My family is addicted to Hippo Express. We go almost daily. The Later Gator is a great energy drink. I highly recommend it. And we also get iced and blended coffee. They have a reward system with the clover app. The employees are also so very friendly and get to know you It’s way better than Starbucks and prices are better than Bigfoot Java If you haven’t tried them you must stop in. I’ve been coming here since they opened and this is hands down my favorite coffee place in Tacoma. The drinks are great but the staff is why it’s my favorite. Em and JL are so sweet, they know my regular drink order better than I do at this point and are always happy to surprise me with something new when I’m not sure what I want.
