I do not like writing negative reviews, especially about restaurants. I know how challenging it is to run a successful business like this. That said...honest, candid reviews of anything - whether it's a restaurant or anything else - are so important. If every review were glowing and rainbows and unicorns, we'd be suspicious. Wouldn't we?
I did not enjoy eating at Jack's BBQ. The only upside was the server and oddly the service wasn't very good. The thing is, she was trying very hard and doing ok, but she was all alone and there were way too many customers for a single server to manage. I complimented and tipped her for her efforts under difficult circumstances.
Now the food. I'm from Texas. I've eaten a lot of BBQ. Not only have I never tasted anything like this in Texas I can also guarantee you that this was the worst BBQ I've ever had.
The brisket was terrible. Completely devoid of any flavor, tough as leather neither looked, tasted nor smelled like it had ever seen a smoker. It had the appearance that it may have, I'm just saying it didn't taste that way.
The sausages tasted like they were bought at Costco. They weren't because I saw the restaurant supply truck parked out back as I was leaving. I'm just saying they were average quality and again lacking flavor or any sense they spent any time in a pit other than some slight physical appearance. Which did nothing to help the (lack of) flavor.
The beans were unlike anything I've ever seen or tasted. The only impression I was left with was salt.
The macaroni and cheese was actually pretty good. But I mean it's hard to go wrong there.
No bread was offered.
I need to also point out that when I walked in - and I should have left when this happened - the smell of industrial cleaners was very strong. I walked into a place like this and expected to be overwhelmed by a smoky, burnt aroma. Not chemicals.
I continue my quest for solid, quality BBQ in the Pacific Northwest. Despite my repeated disappointment, I...
Read moreOk so I want to start out by saying there really wasn't anything WRONG with this place, it just didn't knock my socks off.... So here we go, heard about this place on insta and had to stop by, was immediately digging the vibe, sitting outdoors people playing corn hole, clean feeling but still a little rustic, YES nailed that. The young lady who helped us was fantastic and totally helped narrow down the right selection for me, which was a little of all the things. Then the food came out, and TBH a little disappointing... First off the collard greens were to die for, easily the best thing we had. Also the sausage with the cheese was really good. On the next tier down was the potato salad and ribs both were above average. My only complaint was the ribs shouldn't need BBQ when you use a dry rub... BUT ok, the sauce was good, and the meat tinder. At the bottom of the taste race came in our Mac and cheese, my wife's chicken sandwich, they just weren't anything you couldn't get at any other BBQ place. Mac was a little cold, and needed salt, chicken sandwich was again no seasoning all sauce. And coming in dead last... And guys if your reading this you gotta fix it. The brisket... Did I eat it, yes. Did I enjoy it, I mean it's brisket so I guess a little. Was it dryer then my wife after I spent 600 on a Ghostbusters replica pack. Absolutely. This stuff was dry guys, tender but dang even that BBQ sauce couldn't wet it up. Also, the crust, where there is supposed to be flavor, tasted like a floppy wet tasteless noodle. Even the sauce couldn't fix this brisket. That really made me sad. Anyway, I would say that if I was near by I would stop in again because service was great and them collard greens tho.... But I wouldn't like seek out coming here from a long...
Read moreMy wife and I have been all over the country and along the way we've tried BBQ in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas City, Tennessee, and St Louis. But here at Jack's BBQ, it sadly missed the mark when it comes down to overall appearance/ presentation, taste, and most of all, quality!. My wife ordered the pulled pork sandwich with ranch style beans and coleslaw. The beans were good but they were simply ' pinto beans with a pepper taste'. The pulled pork sandwich was actually very delicious, moist and perfectly smoked, but the coleslaw had so much apple cider vinegar, that you tasted nothing else!. I ordered "The Burger", which was a brisket blend patty topped with cheese and the standard lettuce, tomato, and red onion. My side was an order of fries and I added 'beef bacon ' to my burger as well. My burger was absolutely flavorless and the beef bacon itself was covered in too much (beef fat) Tallow and the bottom of the bun was literally stuck to the parchment paper and when I tried to pick it up, it turned to a mush! The fries were soggy and were seasoned with a blend of spices and it had too much of a sweet side to the seasoning (to me it tasted like apple pie spice and cinnamon), but it was still okay. Is it really Texas Style BBQ?, maybe Inspired by Texas Style BBQ. Overall, when you walk in you'll get the feel of being in a BBQ restaurant, but not in the traditional sense of what you would call Texas Style. Side note: this is our individual experience and I'm not trying to make it look like a completely awful visit. We will go back and try other items on the menu, every restaurant has down days and maybe it was one of those days! The service is...
