So decided to come here after a customer mentioned they were going. I hadn’t been here since my college years. (10 years ago)
Ordered
Carne asada burrito smothered in actual (processed Valletta) cheese. Not can. This is so important.
Fajita taco salad Fish tacos Kids cheese enchilada Complimentary chips and salsa (salsa kicked on this day) not sure if everyday. Fried ice cream
So burrito was tasty. Just how I remember it. But back in 2012 this burrito was thicker.. on this day it was fairly thin/slender. I get it, it’s borderline recession (August 2024) but come on. The cheese and flavor of meat make up for it.
Fajita taco salad was all salad and no fajita. It resembled actual fajitas where it’s all veggies and no meat. The shell was flaky and complimented well with the salsa served with the chips/tostadas.
Fish tacos were good. But the fact that they weren’t fried really had you missing out on that crunch almost every fish taco has. It was tilapia over cod on here. I like tilapia and it did mesh well with the freshly make tortillas. To my knowledge they tasted hand made.
Kids ate so that’s all that matters here.
Fried ice cream… is a ball of corn flakes with ice cream in the middle… I was expecting something else
This place has really nice art work. Has a nice feel. Very small for a place as pack as it was. The freshness and attention to going the extra mile (real house made cheese and tortillas) is what really carried this review to the finish line.
I would recommend this place and...
Read moreOkay...stopped in for a quick bite to eat of Mexican food in Las Cruces. My buddy wanted to taste some delicious Mexican food and after reading through a bunch of reviews, we settled on Chachi's. Since then, we ate at several more Mexican food restaurants in the area, and my buddy is now hooked on Chachi's. I can not blame him. One...my buddy is tight with his money...very tight. He loves the prices and is more than stuffed at the end of his meal and to my surprise, so was I. So the portions are great and at a good price. So how is the flavor? Delicious, especially the green and red chili. I only came across one other place nearby in Alamogordo who's chili was as good. You might be able to tell from my other posts where that is. The decor is touristy, but very colorful. The service is nice, but it does get busy and your server will get very busy. The place can get a bit noisy, but we were there to eat, not chit chat. Our server did make her rounds eventually back to us. They also have a nice selection of empanadas. If you don't know what those are...you are missing out on life. But make sure you ask them how fresh they are. You always want your empanadas as fresh as possible. They are a pastry filled with different fruit or sometimes meat fillings. Yum. So, as you can see from this review, our quick bite turned into a nice long savory meal and a nice long food comma afterwards. Definitely worth a try. Oh yeah, and their...

Upon first bite of the red chile con carne on my combination plate (~$18) I was struck by the comforting smokiness of real new mexico chile, followed up by the subtle hints of garlic, cilantro.... and salt. With each progressive bite of the con carne, the relleno, the cheese enchilada, I couldn't shake the overwhelming saltiness of the food. At first, I liked it. I had been sweating all day in 105 -degree Cruces summer heat, and I'm sure I had leached my fair share of electrolytes, so the salt was welcome. But then it just became too much. Also, the cheese in my enchiladas wasn't melted enough, and I think the relleno might have been reheated from a frozen state... The service was stellar. I mean, there were about three different waiters that checked in with us over the course of five minutes - clearly, wanting to be attentive to customers - and while it might've felt a little overbearing, I appreciate the dedication. Lastly, like any genuine local establishment, the place was packed with a steady stream of loyal customers. People hugging, families being families and overall it gave a heartwarming feeling of that well-loved local hub that everyone continues to go, not because the food is amazing, but for the sake of comforting familiarity and tradition. These such qualities are,...
