Golden Star — Restaurant in Las Cruces

Used to be great; I don't know what happened.

We have been eating at Golden Star for over 5 years, and it was always great, however....

We have moved away from Las Cruces and in late October were visiting our son and his friend; nostalgia prompted us to order takeout from Golden Star.

We ordered the same way we have for years, putting "no spicy" in the special instructions for the General Tso's. When we got the food home, the 3 orders of General Tso's were mostly hot pepper flakes and totally inedible.

I called to complain, and the owner called my husband back. The owner blamed the problem on a new employee who speaks no English but who for some reason processes incoming (Enhlish-language) orders!? He wanted us to drive back to the restaurant and pick up new entrees. My husband told him our family meal was already ruined and we just wanted a refund for the bad entrees.

Last thing my husband understood over the phone is that we would receive a refund to our credit card, this has never happened in the 5 weeks since. Owner also said he would comp us 3 meals for our trouble next time we visit Cruces, but he made no arrangements to ensure that this will happen, so more empty promises.

Vert disappointed that what used to be the best Asian food in Las Cruces has dropped to this level of terrible customer service and basically stealing customers money without providing food as ordered and then making empty promises about making...

You really have to screw things up to disappoint me in the Chinese food category and finally someone did. Congratulations Golden Star, you finally won the award for worst Chinese food I have ever had.

The restaurant itself is situated in what seems to be an old Taco Bell from the late 1980s. It still has the same pink seats. When you enter it looks like you're entering a bio hazard area because from the ceiling to where the food is being kept, there's a plastic hanging.

The food is pretty gross. The lo mein was overcooked and sticky. You could tell it had been there for a while. The BBQ pork and the coconut shrimp were overwhelmingly greasy and super salty. The spring roll tasted stale, somehow. I didn't finish much of anything.

From the outdated decor, the poor customer service, and actual poorly executed meals, this will be my first and last time at Golden Star. Thanks but no thanks. Thankfully I still have enough time...

Don't go here . They are shady and add tips a day after you go through their drive through without you putting it on the receipt. They charged me the correct amount at the drive through, they even sent a receipt with us. Then today I get a notification that they added a dollar tip to the transaction!! For a drive through order for a combo B!!!!!! Who does that. That is fraudulent dishonest and illegal. They did not have my approval to ads on a dollar tip at all. For what? They did not bring my food out to me, it's a drive through. Don't go here they are scammers and if I had knowledge of doing the tip FINE but to do it with my card a day later, that's NOT OK.
