Olivia's Cafe — Restaurant in Las Vegas

OMG. I thought $13 for the chili rellenos plate was expensive. But after we were served the two huge rellenos and ate one each with the ample portions of real beans and delicious rice we we both stuffed. So this lunch for two actually turned out to be a bargain.

To me, the hallmark dish for Mexican food is the chili relleno. The cook on it here was absolutely perfect. It was lightly battered and fried to a gentle crisp on the outside. That is hard to do since not very many can accomplish it. The chili itself had enough crunch that I had to ask if it was fresh. (It was not and I did not expect so since it is not chili season.) The cheese on the inside was perfect.

My kudos go to Olivia herself who is the cook here. The other lady cashier/waitperson was engaging and congenial. Sitting outside with the plaza around was delightful.

The three white guys at another table said that this was the least expensive Mexican food in town. I wish that I lived near here so that I could try Olivia's other dishes.

WARNING! The City of Las Vegas has installed some vicious speed bumps on the streets that go to the Plaza. They are unsigned and largely unmarked since the paint has worn off. Shame on them for mistreating their tourists that are trying to support...

I wound give zero star if I could, we sat there for more than 1 hour till the food came, and it came right after my husband went inside to just pay for the drink and ready to leave. The service is terrible, we have a toddler and baby, we are traveling and stopped in this town for lunch.Saw some good review about this place and decide to give it a try. But it’s just a horrible experience. I guess we are not welcome here or something. They serve everybody else faster than us, people came after us gets their food ahead of us. They are apparently doing this on purposely to us. I’m Asian, my husband is Caucasian, don’t know if that’s the reason. I never get this type of service in America, so I don’t know why this place gets high reviews, all I know is for some reason I’m not welcome in this restaurant. We were traveling back home to Texas and decided to stop in this local spot for breakfast. We walked in and they were quite busy, the only tables empty were still dirty (not a problem) the sign at the door says “please seat yourself” so we did. We didn’t mind that the table still had coffee cups on it from the previous customers. After a few minutes of waiting the busser came over to clean the table for us. In the meantime the waitress looked at us many times and refilled coffee cups to people surrounding us. We wait overall for about 20 minutes with zero acknowledgment from wait staff and 4 more tables had walked in after us and been served drinks and menus already.
