I was held hostage for having an AMEX, and the manager handled the situation very poorly.
The food was run of the mill, and when it was time to pay, the waitress took it upon herself to tell me 3 times that it was my job to carry more methods of payment with me, because lots of people didn’t accept AMEX. For starters, my card has never once been denied at any location. If it’s your business model to not accept this method of payment, that’s on you, not me.
They suggested that I walk to the nearby grocery store to try to get my card to give me cash. I attempted to do this while my 9 month pregnant wife sat at the table waiting. No luck on the cash. The manager then tried to tell me that the nearby bank was open and to try that. (This is on Easter Sunday, wrong advice). Then, she tried to get us to do Apple Pay even after telling her twice that it was tied to our AMEX. Of course, this resulted in her letting us know again that she didn’t accept.
I then offered (yes, the customer trying to solve the situation once again because the manager is a simpleton) to leave them my federally issued ID that I need to do all things as collateral, or even a photo of my ID so that I could drive my wife home and come back to pay. The manager then told me that I couldn’t just leave, and that leaving behind my ID was not enough.
So, now my 9 month pregnant wife (about to pop any day now) had to drive by herself to the house to get another method of payment.
My complaint here is on the lack of customer care. If you don’t accept AMEX that is fine, but there are more refined ways to handle situations like these. For starters, post your poor business model on the window so that I can see it!
I do not need your waitresses giving me financial advice, and I do not need to be held hostage with a pregnant wife when I try every avenue to guarantee my will to make payment right, ON EASTER SUNDAY!
If I would have left they probably would have called the police, making this a loss for everyone. I came back in as my wife left home to a table that was being cleared, sitting awkwardly for another 30-45 minutes waiting on my wife.
And just to reiterate, I’m a level headed individual. I paid and left a tip. Hopefully the tip will be used for some community college in customer care by...

My wife and I stopped in today for lunch. Pamela was our server today. She is full of energy and twisted my arm, (figuratively), and had me try the Calamari. It was excellent. The breading was crispy while the inside was perfectly cooked and delicious.
This remains one of our favorite breakfast, lunch, and Italian restaurants.
I usually don't give places 5 stars, however this little, out-of-the-way restaurant really deserves it and so much more! I have gone to the Omelet House on Charleston for breakfast several times and I was shocked to discover this location about 10 minutes from my house. My wife and I went there this evening, basically for her to check it out and because I wanted Italian food. We were BOTH very happy, her in her discovery, and me in my quest for Italian food. We both had Italian dishes. The bean soup I had prior to my entree was VERY good. Both entree's were delicious. The flavor combinations were beyond description, and the pasta was cooked, PERFECTLY!!! The owners parents were on duty this particular evening. Dee was very personable and pleasant, and Frank was as charming as a person can possibly be. I felt a bit guilty because it felt like my parents were serving me, but it also felt warm and very comfortable for the same reason. Take some time and seek out this little, out-of-the-way gem.... you won't regret it!!!
Shout out to owner, Ziggy...and awesome...
Read moreThis is not the first time I've been here, but this place is amazing, both for the food and the service.
I came here with my mother in law, father in law, sister in law, and my 2 year old son. Pretty much as soon as we sat down, my son started throwing a tantrum. Our waitress today, Erin, came over and got his order (kids chicken fingers), and RAN to put his order in before she came back and got our orders. She was very responsive to our needs throughout the time we were there, and made the experience that much better.
The staff are always careful when it comes to allergies. My MiL is gluten-intolerant, and was ecstatic when they asked her to try some gluten-free french toast, because she finally had an option for food besides just sausage and eggs. The fact that the food is amazing on top of it all makes everything that much better.
For this trip, i had the chili, and quickly understood why it is award winning. My FiL and SiL both had the turkey guacamole sandwich, and both thoroughly enjoyed it (even though my son stole my SiL's pickle spear).
Overall, between the quality of the food and the level of service we recieved today (not just from Erin, but from other staff members as well), we will be coming back many many times...
