We have been to The Tavern many times for sports games and happy hour! We love the owners and bartenders and have always had an amazing experience. Except once. We went to watch a playoff NFL game and the place was full of kids and families.
While I know it’s one of the few places around town that is non-smoking, it’s still a sports and gaming bar. The kids (under 12 yo) were not supposed to be in the pool and bar gaming area and were told (including parents) many times by staff yet they kept going back. Eventually, I was hit in the head with a pool stick since we were sitting at the non gaming bar area near the pool table by a parent with his 8-10 yo kids playing pool. I immediately let him know the kids were told many times not to be in the pool area and waived a bartender and owner over. They fixed the situation and apologized profusely. It honestly wasn’t their fault since the parents can’t seem to listen to instructions by staff. I wish kids under 18 weren’t allowed there, but I definitely understand that if the kids would stay in the dining room where they are allowed, it would be fine.
I give them 5 stars still because we have been back many times since the incident. They definitely tried to make it right by apologizing and offering to move some people around to find a better place for us but we were just ready to go that day of the incident. Jessica is our favorite bartender and we will continue to watch sporting events there and support them because they are...
Read moreWe wanted to go get a steak dinner without the hassle of The Strip and the prices that go along with that. After reading some reviews we decided to give this place a try. Not disappointed at all. For $20 you can get a 12 oz. NY strip or a 16 oz. rib eye with two sides. Limited choice on the sides i.e. huge baked potato and either broccoli or green beans but what's the problem with that I say? This place has it all, 2 for 1 from 5 - 7, darts, pool, video slots, jukebox and probably things I am missing. The service was prompt and the steak was very good. We really appreciated the customization we requested to exclude some things from the meal for my spouse who has diet restrictions. Kirsten did a great job as a server and the chef (forgot his name, sorry) came out to talk about the diet restrictions. At the end of the meal we chatted with the server and stupid me forgot to take my credit card with me. Discovered that the next day and being there from out of town was a littel worried. Called them the next morning and they said they had my card, stopped by in the evening and picked it up with no problem. Even had a cocktail while there because it's a very comfortable place to hang out. Don't let the location or the exterior fool you, this is a great little gem without...
Read moreOVERCHARGED BUT STILL FUN PLACE TO GO: I loved the fact that we could play pool for free. Unfortunately, there was a little mix up with my drink that wasn't handled very well. I ordered a non-alcoholic beverage and it confused the bartender who made an alcoholic beverage. I totally get the mix-up, but my problem was that when I explained to him that it was supposed to be non-alcoholic, he tried to give me a lecture about how to order drink basically saying it was my fault. I get it, so I'll be more careful next time despite the fact that I've NEVER had an issue ordering this before. The biggest problem was that I had already paid. I asked him if I had been charged for an alcoholic beverage and he said "yeah, is just a $2 difference but you're good" as though that ended the conversation and it was totally okay for him to charge me an extra $2 for his mistake. I waited a minute and then he said "I'll give you your $2 back". I still don't have my $2 back and I get that it's only $2 but it is an extra charge for literally no reason. I think he may have had a few himself, or maybe he was just tired as we were there for an event, but...
