Wow, this is really great food!
The ingredients and preparation are a level above your usual similar restaurant -- I was surprised how fresh and high-quality everything seemed. If it were presented differently, it could almost fit into an upscale restaurant and not be out of place.
The meats are wood-fired and have a great texture, the masa is very sweet and soft, the sauces are made really well. They also use minimal corn oil and no seed oils, as far as I heard. The arepas were not oily, they have very minimal oil on them from the griddle thing where they are toasted and the meat fillings were not oily, either.
I really liked the #1 (amazing beef) and the #12 (the delicious soft shredded beef, the salty black beans, and the plantain go great together, there is cheese too but i asked for no cheese -- this is apparently one of the classic arepa combos).
The owner is very health-conscious and is very willing to discuss and accommodate dietary restrictions. He volunteered what things were gluten-free before I even asked. There are also vegetarian and vegan options. I think the food overall is pretty healthy at least if you stick to the non-fried options.
Planning to go back often, this is...
Read moreI ate my first arepa 9 years ago on our 1. anniversary trip to Vancouver, B.C. It was love at first bite. I love pupusas (husband is from El Salvador) and this is right down my alley. Fried and stuffed with deliciousness. We just got back from our 10. anniversary trip and had lunch here yesterday. The place is off strip which is nice and easy to access in a little strip mall with good parking. The interior appeared new and well kept. It was worth the flight just for tasting the papillon (shredded beef, black beans, plantain and cotija cheese I think) arepa and shredded chicken empanada. We had a vegetarian arepa and another beef variety as well. All delicious, just right size and good price. Wish we had this close to home. I would eat there all the time! Sorry no pictures, you just have to take my word for it. They were so good and by the time I realized we had not taken a pix they...
Read moreBeen wanting to come here for a while, had an errand to run nearby so was a perfect time to stop and try this establishment out. Owner was nice and was pleasant to talk with was patient and explaining his menu. They have a full catering room should the need arise.
When the food came to our table it looked small but it was not it was heavy and quite filling filled with meat. The basket of fries is more than enough for two people. The different house sauces are quite complimentary to these sandwiches. I've never had arepas before so didn't know what to expect we were pleasantly surprised. Looking to come back again, hope they survive this pandemic so far they have can't wait to try a different kind. The beef most and the wood flavor comes through in a good way. Come hungry for like I said they're bigger than...
