So I didn't realize that I didn't take a picture of my food until I was biting into the last piece of my fried fish. It was really good by the way.
Food: I got the fried catfish breakfast. The fish was delicious. I asked for it to be fried hard and although it wasn't fried as hard as I would have liked, it was still good. The eggs were fine; I mean they're eggs. The grits, I was not a fan of. Every since I've had ikrave grits, I don't like grits made with water and these were just bland.
Customer Service: The reason for the low rating. Our waitress was not up to par. I am not sure if she is new and still in training but she needs a little more training. And if this is the case, they should not assign her to big tables. It was seven of us. For one our cups were empty for far too long. It got to the point where Jasmine, the waitress we were hoping for, was assisting. On two occasions she came over to assists us with our re-fills and checking on to-go orders for us. Despite writing our orders down and repeating it back to us three times, on her own accord; not ours, our order was still missing items at which point we didn't even request anymore. One of the young ladies cheese was not melted into the grits. She asked the waitress to put her food in the microwave to melt the cheese and was told that the grits would melt because of how hot they were. For one the grits were not that hot to do that and two it took her asking the manager to out it in the microwave to get it done. Mixing the cheese into grits did not do anything. The cheese sat there in clumps. It took about 20 minutes to get a to go plate for one of the other young ladies at the table. I'm sure you get my drift by now. The customer service could have been way better.
Restaurant: The restaurant itself was very nice. It had your typical "hole in the wall" feel to it which I love! That's when you know the food is going to be good. It reminds me of MLK Restaurant in Miami before it moved to its new location.
Overall, despite the customer service I enjoyed the restaurant and my food. If ever I am in the area again, I would come back but probably just ask to sit in...
Read moreUsually I receive mediocre customer service and great food... today all of that changed. I called to place an order, and was left on hold for 15 minutes and 47 seconds. No one came back to check on me, eventually I hung up and called back. Once I retrieved my food, most of order was either over or under cooked, and incorrect according to the order I placed. I called to make a complaint and was offered no form of apology nor did she show any empathy, instead she basically accused me of lying and demanded me to return the food. To add insult to injury “the receptionist” refused to give me her name. When I expressed that I was at work and would like to speak with the supervisor/manager, she said there was no one of that statue on shift. At this point I asked for the managers name and a time to call back... The receptionist then ignored my request, spoke over me and asked for my information. I was then told to call back at 2pm, when the restaurant closes at 2pm. And if so, what was the purpose of taking my information if I still have to call back. To say the least: I am very disappointed, as I’ve been patronizing Spoons, a long time and have had plenty of family gatherings there. I don’t think that will continue with the way I was...
Read moreDon’t get me wrong, the seasoning on the food was good as far as Southern Style old fashion grandmas cooking. However, upon sitting down within seconds later I was greeted by a roach on the table. I was later provided with dirty eatting Utensils which were wrapped inside of an unpackaged paper napkin, i found this odd due to the fact that we are in this whole Covid - 19 era, I was expecting plastic spoons, forks and knives along with a plastic cup. I ordered the Smothered Pork Chops, Biscuit, eggs and grits. The grits were lacking in temperature and the biscuit appeared to be heated up in the microwave. The eggs were okay but also lacked in temperature. The Pork Chops were very very thin sliced and a bit rushed if you ask me It all came to about $15.61, I paid with a $20.00 Bill and was given a $5 Bill, a Single $1 Bill and a few coins. I found this as kinda like tip me 5 or. Nothing at all. I was expecting all singles, I almost opted not to tip her, I chopped it up to an honest mistake . So all in all I give this restaurant 2stars. I’m guessing the 4.5 rating was achieved due to a lot of locals coming. I could always spend that same amount at a much nicer spot with better quality food. I will not...
