I went back and forth on whether to leave a review. I love supporting black businesses and was overjoyed to know we had a black owned jazz spot within our driving area. Our original thing was to catch the Tri Rail down and Uber over so we could enjoy drinks. But decided to drive instead. Thank goodness because we didn’t even get to enjoy the music or see Roman play.
It took over 40 mins to get water. I asked about room temp water as one in or party has a sensitivity to cold. She can’t even hold the glass if it’s cold. She ordered a hot beverage we never got. Strawberry lemonade tasted like strawberry puree added to water with barely a touch of sugar. Plain and simple it was nasty. They could have bought premade from Walmart that was better. We came to spend money and enjoy the music but management and the staff didn’t let us. They told me my sister misinterpreted the young lady at the door telling her “the bar gets service first!” The drinks was horrible $20 for a glass of wine. The food prices don’t match the food being offered.
I watched a young lady come in with a backpack 🎒 sit at the bar. Nobody checked this backpack for weapons or anything else. Then she was served before us and an employee came from behind the bar kitchen area began taking pics and videos of her. But we can’t even get a cup of coffee. Next the lady at the door was enjoying a group of ladies that came in and I’m assuming she knew them they was talking away. Meanwhile we’re getting horrible wine based drinks and service. This business doesn’t have a liquor license so hence why everything wine based and nasty. Can’t tell you about the food because we never got our food.
The only excuses I got was manager was out of town, they fired the cook, 2 waitress called out, and they completely forgot a party of 10 was coming that day. Never mind I emailed this establishment on Sept 8th because I read reviews where large parties was having issues just showing up. Someone then text me and we paid Sunday almost a week prior in advance. So they had plenty of time to prepare.
Save your money let this place stay open another year before you go. They need to value all customers and fix the wrongs everybody complains about. Food, customer service, and drinks.
Ps our entrance fee we prepaid was refunded.
Respond to the Bible verse. I find that very insulting and gaslighting behavior. Ephesians 4:31–32 encourages Christians to eliminate harmful behaviors like bitterness, rage, anger, clamor, slander, and malice, and instead to cultivate kindness, compassion, and a spirit of forgiveness, modeling themselves after God's forgiveness of them through Christ. Maybe you should try that instead of this horrible insult tactics as a business.
I didn’t just decide to bring party of 10 down from Palm Beach. I read the reviews saw where it said email you for large parties. I told you we have one in our party going through chemo. I asked about water being room temp because she can’t touch or drink anything cold.
1 I had no intentions on leaving a Google review. It was the business owners texting, calling, , voicemail, and finally screen shots he texted to take a post down I didn’t even tag the business to on my personal Facebook page.
As the posted pics will show I emailed this business 9/8 and gave my contact information. When we get our party size confirmed we paid the amount the Sunday prior. So this business knew in advance a large party was coming 9/20 at 6:30pm. The owner and I texted several times to make sure we were on the same page. We paid for our party on open table so I’m sure they got reminders we were coming.
Next he tried to say I wasn’t ordering food. Sorry I didn’t add a comma but my next sentence clearly gave understanding we were ordering food as I told him I read in review service a bit slow for large parties.
As we can see by the updated pics this business needs to apply Ephesians 4:31-32 to itself. Stop making excuses for poor service and mismanagement of how they run...
Read moreI had a great time with my family, celebrating a birthday, enjoying the food and the show, great atmosphere but then..our night was ruined after we received the check. Absolutely unexpected. We were charged a $100 performance fee for the show without prior knowledge. It makes absolutely no sense. The waitress should have informed us about it so we could have had the chance to make a decision whether we wanted stay or leave. When we complained to the owner, he said that it’s listed at the very bottom of the menu where it is not very visible at first sight, unless you’re looking for it. Especially because of the low lighting in the room. It was hard enough to see the menu and were concentrated ordering our food. This is why it’s important for the waiter to inform clients about the charge in advanced. What’s worse, it says it “may” be charged, so they can choose the charger whenever they feel like it? Not only were we charged for the entertainment fee, but they charged us gratuity. This would normally be fine, however, The gratuity was not just on the sub total of the food but also on the entertainment fee. So you charge us an entertainment fee and then make us pay gratuity on an entertainment fee you charged? Shady practices.
So Bill that should’ve been about $150 cost us $300.
This ruined our experience and we will not be returning to this venue.
Reply to your response; you were not told that we were invited to the venue you were told that our friend told us about your venue. So we came via word of mouth. So if a customer has come to your establishment for the first time, has not seen your Instagram page where the price is listed as you are stating, then they would not know of this price. You yourself stated that this is the first time that you’ve charged for a performance fee so my friend who recommended your establishment would not have known about that fee further that means anyone that did not see your instagram flyer and was referred by word-of-mouth would not have known of the performance fee. So no everyone did not know. In fact we talked to another couple who went to the event last night and they did not even realize there was an event fee on their receipt. A customer outside heard us talking about the event fee and decided not to come in to this establishment. When your owner was presented with the receipt, he did not even look at it. He could’ve seen right then that there was an issue with the gratuity that you were speaking of, but the real question is…did you notice this before I made my post or after? Further, The owner did not even want to listen or compromise on the receipt. Just stated that there’s nothing he could do and walked away. You stated that you’re not trying to be arrogant, but then in the same paragraph tell us we should blame my friend for not telling us about the fee that it is not your fault. Not a great way to...
Read moreThis review is an honest review and I will return, with that being said; the cons… the 2 strobe lights on the ceiling while the performer is on stage, to much fanning + napkins and the loudness (let me explain lol). These strobe lights are white light that moves and flashes and takes away from the ambience, food and entertainment. Also, it’s not easy on the eyes of the audience. Now to the loudness, I understand we are at a jazz lounge, but a lounge is not a club. The music does not have to be extremely high. I should still be able to slightly interact, laugh and hear my conversation slightly, I was in the front so maybe that’s why. Lastly those fan! Once again I was in the front and it wasn’t crowded so those fans were HITTING from 3 angles lol! Plus they gave me like 20 (maybe more) napkins lol I felt a responsibility to keep them from flying around lol 😂 it’s ok to give less napkins lol I only ordered fries and a drink.
Positives!!! Tara and Keden were amazing! Their energy vibe from first intro was welcoming.
Food was good, pretty quick, and fresh. I want to state they do have vegan options!!!! This is huge because it’s hard to come by. Drinks were good. And entertainment was great. Hiyde is doing its damn thing, can’t wait to enjoy more. Thank you for...
