Whether you're a local or an out of towner coming to Laurel to visit the location of HGTV's "Hometown" series, you should definitely take the time to come and visit the newest location of Wilson's Commissary.
It is located in one of Laurel's historic buildings and situated in the heart of downtown, right across from the train station. You can watch the Amtrack trains roll by while you enjoy some fine southern cooking! 🍗
If you're downtown on a Sunday, you'll be happy to find that Wilson's is open for lunch and dinner! This is quite the rare find in our small town, as you will notice most local eateries and shops will be closed. 🙏
If you're feeling thirsty, you can pull up a stool at the bar, make some new friends, and watch the latest game on one of the two giant flatscreen tv's. Have a beer or whiskey. It's your choice ;) 🍻
They have ample seating available in the form of 30ft long tables (for family gatherings or if you're like me and just feeling friendly). If you're more of an introvert, don't fret... you can get a table all to yourself next to the windows and enjoy your solitude.
So next time you're downtown, be sure to swing by and grab a bite... or a drink 🤷♂️ (we won't judge 😉). Come mingle with the locals, and you might even see the owner making his rounds, shaking hands, and thanking everyone for coming by and visiting his contribution to Hometown.
If you're lucky enough to have Abbey as your waitress, be sure to let her know I sent you. She always makes great food recommendations and will make sure you get the best service during...
Read moreWe walked in to this establishment and were amazed at how large it was compared to the outside look. We sat at the bar but realized it was a BAR bar. My son is only 14 so we chose a window table. We sat around for a bit waiting on the server. Maybe 17 seconds. :) she came over brought menus and immediately took our drink order. We looked at the menu and were a little confused. She came over and asked if she could help. We said yes. We didn’t realize all they had on the dinner menu was po boys. It was fine. We just didn’t know. She said it’s something they had implemented a couple days prior. We asked about a couple buffet items and she was more than helpful in directing us to the right choice. Our food came out and smelled amazing. The portions were abundant to say the least. The wait was longer than expected. We played checkers with little butters on the checker board on the table. It was fun! But it is all served super fresh. My 14 year old said the food makes up for the wait. IT REALLY DID!!! The service too! They are absolutely amazing. The music is a bit loud. It makes it hard for the servers to hear soft spoken people. That would probably be the only thing I would change. Just a couple decibels lower. The location is outstanding. It’s clean and the staff are helpful and courteous. The prices are definitely budget friendly. I...
Read moreWe apparently caught them between lunch and afternoon menu changes at 3:30. The waitress was snappy and quick to let us know all they were serving were po boys, sandwiches, and salads. Told us she would come back for our drink orders and decide if we wanted to order. That should have been our first clue, she definitely wasn't happy to be there and didn't really care if we ordered or not. 2 of us ordered the half shrimp po boy and 2 ordered the roast beef po boys. The roast beef didn't even resemble roast beef. It had the consistency of wet grayish cat food from a can. It looked like 4 day old mush. The shrimp poboys had 6 small shrimp and looked like they were cooked earlier in the day and then refried with 2 week old burnt grease. The fries were okay, but the po boys were unlike anything we'd ever seen or tried to eat. The waitress never checked on us and I had to get a young lady cleaning tables for a refill on tea. Maybe they were having a bad day, but I do not reccomend...
