I recently had the pleasure of dining at Shogun Steak and Sushi in Lawrenceville, and I have to say—it was an impressive experience from start to finish. Whether you’re craving flavorful hibachi grilled dishes or fresh, artfully prepared sushi, Shogun delivers both with quality and consistency.
Let’s start with the food: it was excellent. Everything tasted fresh and was clearly made to order. From the sizzling meats on the hibachi grill to the delicate rolls at the sushi bar, every dish was thoughtfully prepared. The steak was cooked perfectly to my request—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The shrimp and scallops were also standouts: buttery, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. I appreciated the balance of flavors and textures across the plate.
The sushi was equally impressive. The rolls were generous in size, beautifully presented, and bursting with freshness. You can tell the chefs take pride in their craft. I tried a few specialty rolls and a classic spicy tuna roll, and everything was spot on—clean, flavorful, and satisfying without being overly fussy.
Portion sizes here are very generous. If you leave hungry, that’s on you. Most entrees come with soup, salad, rice, vegetables, and your choice of protein, making it an excellent value for the price. You definitely get your money’s worth, and in today’s dining landscape, that’s a big deal.
Service was another highlight of the visit. The staff was friendly, attentive, and efficient. Our server checked in often without being overbearing, and the hibachi chef was not only skilled but also engaging and fun, adding to the overall experience. The staff seemed genuinely happy to be there, and that energy made the atmosphere even more enjoyable.
Pricing at Shogun is very fair, especially considering the portion sizes and the quality of the ingredients. It’s not a bargain basement spot—but you’re paying for a well-rounded dining experience, and it’s worth every penny. Whether you’re there for a special occasion or just a casual night out, it feels like money well spent.
The interior of the restaurant is clean and nicely decorated, with a traditional yet inviting feel. There’s a good separation between the hibachi and sushi dining areas, so whether you’re in the mood for a show or a quieter meal, there’s a spot for you.
Overall, Shogun Steak and Sushi in Lawrenceville is a solid choice for anyone looking for great Japanese cuisine in a welcoming, lively environment. The food is fresh and flavorful, the portions are large, and the service is genuinely good. It’s the kind of place you’ll find yourself coming back to—whether for a fun hibachi dinner with friends or a sushi date night.

Read moreWould have liked to try the food. My uusband and I went here on NYE. Were completely ignored for 20+ minutes before someone finally came to get our drink order. People that were seated after us got their full meal and we never got our drinks. Finally after 45 minutes we decided to leave. Very disappointed. Understand you're busy but it's not hard getting two waters.
Response to Restaurant:
we didn't care how long the sushi took to make. We cared how we were basically ignored for a good 20-30 minutes before our drink order was taken. We left 15 minutes later after never getting our drinks, even our Waters.
we came in around 6:30 not 7. Our order was not put into the system until 7.
people who were seated after us got their whole meal before we even got our Waters
Again, we didn't care how long it was going to take to make the Sushi. We know we had a big order and we were prepared to wait for that. We didn't cancel the order because of how long the sushi was going to take to be made.
We were seated as soon as we walked through the door, so no reservation was needed. That was awesome. But we were IGNORED after that. We were thirsty. People who were seated about 3-5 minutes after us were waited on first, got their drinks first, and got their meals. WE NEVER EVEN GOT OUR WATERS.
Instead we went to Blue Sameri and were waited on immediately. Got our drinks within minutes of walking through the door. The server was beyond nice to use. Instead the server we had at your restaurant acted like she didn't want to be there or to serve us.
So before you start making assumptions about why we canceled our order, please review what actually happened. We are very upset as we were excited to try some of the sushi items on your menu, which is why we ordered a lot. My husband and I always love going to local restaurants and whenever we have sushi we always tip both the server and sushi master generously. We felt bad about cancelling the order, but as you said, it was just put in (about 15 minutes after we ordered - we ordered that the same time we ordered our drinks since we had 20-30...
Read moreI have ordered To Go orders NUMEROUS times from them. My entire office has and we have NEVER had an entire order correct. There was always one persons order wrong. Today I was fed up. I called 12 times (call log for proof) and no one would answer. So on my lunch break I had to go up there and ask for a manager. At first, I was told manager isn't available so then I said to get me someone who was because I was sick of my food always being wrong. Of course the young lady proceed and got the owner. I tell the owner how much my office has ordered food from there and how much we have complained about it, yet with my receipt in my hand she proceeded to tell me I was wrong. Once I showed her my receipt she compared it to whats in her system and she realized it was incorrectly ordered in their system so it supposedly didn't speak to the kitchen. (Which makes no sense because end of the day you still charged me in full so if it doesn't speak to the kitchen then how does the full price ring up or even so they still have to cook it so how does a partial order cook and not the rest? I told her all 8 of us had something wrong with our order and we just weren't going to order anymore from them. Turns out they wouldn't refund anyone elses order because we didn't bring all of it back!. They only refunded 1 order because that is the only food that was brought back. I proceeded to ask if she wanted me to bring all 8 orders back and she said yes. I then stated you do know that is a health code violation right? (JUST FYI THEY KEPT THE FOOD I BROUGHT BACK-major healthcode violation) She ignored me took a call on her cellphone (because she placed her ear buds in her ear and started speaking --sole reason I realized she had answered a personal call. Needless to say no one else got their refund, but me all because I was the only person to bring back their food. Did she want all 8 of us to show up on our lunch break? I suggest you sit and order verses doing to go orders because they just cant...
