I been putting off this review for a very long time. DISCLAIMER: This post might be lengthy.
Review: I had Tsubasa for the very first time back when they first opened for about a month. It blew my mind away. You don’t understand, everything was so fresh and delicious, my friend and I kept ordering more and more until we were too stuff to move (or maybe I was). There was not a thing that I felt disappointed on or needed work. Everything was a work of perfection 5/5. *Recommended rolls: Diablo, crazy crawfish, lovely, Tsubasa signature, south shore, bayside, truffle seabass, kemah special, Hawaiian, and the tempura max. *Recommended appetizers (hot and cold): popcorn dumplings, baked mussels with dynamite sauce, hamacchio, salmon carpaccio, tuna tartare, taro chip special, spicy crab salad, and good ol’ fashion garlic edamame. *Recommended kitchen items: Chicken/pork Katsu, chicken teriyaki, Kalbi (Korean bbq short ribs) and the bulgogi. Recommended sashimi/sushi: salmon, salmon belly (fatty salmon), escolar (super white tuna), yellowtail, fatty yellowtail, pepper tuna, Kani, and the unagi. (Basically the whole menu lol but these are just my favorites.)
Back story: At the time I also needed a part time job. I applied that same day and got interviewed on the spot. Since working here for about 7 months, nothing about my experience and love for this restaurant changed. They serve the freshest ingredients, takes care of their customers and employees, and loves what they do. We have regulars that come into here and everyone just knows everyone type feel. It’s not just another restaurant but it’s like family.
Leaving Tsubasa, I can still say that it is my favorite sushi spot in this whole area. Reminds me of sushi overseas in Asia. Doesn’t get any more fresher than that. The experience and love I have for this place only magnified and I will greatly miss being able to be here weekly to eat Chef John’s sushi. Within the time that I stayed here, I had the amazing opportunity to clear off the entire menu of Tsubasa and came to a conclusion that there isn’t anything on the menu I dislike.
Thank you for the love and time you’ve invested in me and believed in my sushi creations (Mimi Roll , Crazy Shaggy). I will forever always hold Tsubasa dear...
Read moreMy husband and I went here for dinner on a Saturday evening. The server was friendly and the food that we got was served pretty quickly. We ordered Peppered Salmon with Serrano Pepper appetizer. It was ok, but the seasonings overpowered the fish, I could barely taste the fish. My husband ordered the Tsubasa Signature roll, which was decent, the Tempura Dream roll, which was not good (it tasted dry and old and did not have much flavor), and sake toro sushi. They gave him regular salmon instead, and when asked indicated they didn't have sake toro, even though it was on the menu (they also didn't have tamago even though it was on the menu). The salmon was not great. The thing that really spoiled the experience though was I ordered one roll, the South Shore, and they never brought it. We asked our server twice and she asked the sushi chefs twice, but there seemed to be some kind of communication breakdown and no action to fix it. My husband was long done with his rolls and still no South Shore (he did share his rolls with me). We were trying to be patient and not make a scene, so we left without making a big deal of it. As we paid our tab, the waitress apologized and used being busy as an excuse (even though the place was maybe at 40% capacity). Overall, it was not at all an enjoyable experience, and I would struggle to find a...
Read moreMy husband and I love Tsubasa Sushi. I would give it a 5 star but my most recent visit on Wednesday July 29, 2020 was a bit disheartening. We sat at the bar and the main Japanese sushi chef that is always nice to us was very rude and disrespectful to what looked like the only female employee he had at the time... She was wiping the back counter and apparently it wasn’t to his standards (which is fine if your polite) and proceeded grab the cloth, vigorously wipe in a specific pattern, and talk to her in a rude voice. There was no please or thank you. No kindness to him. Then she went to the back to work on an order I assume and he literally yelled at her to come here with no polite tone or words. The young woman looked a bit shocked and unprepared for how to handle all this. This kind of thing continued to happen and we felt bad for her and a bit uncomfortable. I am writing in hopes the owner looks at this and changes things. We love this restaurant and don’t want to see it go downhill. We have good...
